good point.

Chrissy | 1142 comments Can I also suggest that the poll includes the list of prompts chosen so far, so that people don't vote for things closely related to what we already have on the list? Not everybody will know/remember what has gotten through.

Or if something is already very similar (I guess at the mod's discretion), it can juts be removed as an option? I don't usually advocate for taking things out of the running like that, but if something is already extremely close, it seems silly to re-nominate it. I'm thinking of something like the Anglosphere or Canadian author suggestions, if the current suggestion for an Australian/New Zealand/Canadian book gets through. Or something like a most anticipated 2020 release vs. a 2020 release, which are very similar although there are some differences.

That's a good point. Several of the close calls got modified and resubmitted successfully; I would trust the mods to thin out ones that overlap too strongly with prompts that have already made the list.

Yes, we have created a list of 10 close calls based on the numbers. We will have the pool once we get to 15.

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) Given that we only had one winner this week, might this not be a great time to run the close calls poll (alongside our regularly scheduled poll?) Just a thought :)

Liz | 516 comments I’m curious to know how many we have on the close call poll now. Last time it was at 10. I’m also curious to know what those prompts are, since neither of the original lists posted had that few. Really, I’m just stupid excited for the possibility of so many of the options that could end up on the final list. I’d be thrilled with a good amount of them.

The mods will be looking at the list later today! We were at 10, but we’ve had a few duplicates make it in (like the Woman’s Prize for Fiction, now that the list prompt made it in this week) so we need to do some calculations. We were aiming to have 15 like a normal poll, but we will see how the numbers play out.

How would y’all like to see it? Last poll? Next poll? Running at the same time as the next poll or on its own? We haven’t really talked about it yet, but that’s next on our list.

Jillian | 2922 comments It might be nice to have it stagnated between polls. That way we get results twice in a week but really any way is fine with me.

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3281 comments I'm a little confused about how the items for the close calls polls are being chosen. I know we were discussing at one point whether it was by upvotes only, or by the total (upvote - downvote), but I don't remember seeing a decision being reached? I'm fine with whatever it is, just curious how it is working since I assume I missed it.

message 62: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1148 comments My preference would be to do the close calls polls soon and set it between the weekly polls.

message 63: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3334 comments I'd like the poll soon also, and set between weekly polls.

message 64: by Liz (new)

Liz | 516 comments I agree. Sooner rather than later.

message 65: by viemag (new)

viemag | 180 comments I have a question: Will the list for the poll be compared to our current list of chosen prompts and similar prompts removed? For example we have a prompt that says: "A book published in 2020."And on the close call list is "A book from The most anticipated books of 2020 list." Aren't these two prompts the same? There is also a prompt on the 2020 list that says " A book by an author on the Abe List of 100 Essential Female Writers" And there is a prompt on the poll list that says: "A book from the "1000 Books by Women" list " Aren't these prompts the same also?

Yes, I am working on an updated list now. I specifically am removing those and some of the other similarly worded prompts.

The mods are still discussing to determine a final list but it will likely be a combination of the two. That way some of the really popular ones get a second chance since some people's bottom preference may have changed since voting the first time.

That sounds like a good idea.

message 69: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Sterling | 452 comments I agree with many of the posters above who said they would prefer to have the Close Calls poll soon. I am excited about the idea, and also excited that we could have more results for the final list by having two polls at the same time, or close together. Maybe an overlap, where we have a regular poll still on-going when the CC poll is posted, and maybe it's still wrapping up when the next regular poll gets posted?

We are thinking we will start the voting for the Close Calls poll sometime this week, after voting for the 16th mini poll gets underway. We are just finalizing the prompts for the poll!
