Theo Shapiro | 20 comments I have recently become a fan of John Scalzi's books and read several already. I found out three of his books are becoming tv shows and I can't decide which will be best. My highest hope is for Redshirts since that was my favorite of his books so far and that it's going to be on FX, which is a good station. Then Old Man's War is going to be on SYFY. I think that could be a good show, but I don't trust the channel. Finally, Locked In is being adapted, though I don't know which channel. Which do you think will make the best show?

Micah Sisk (micahrsisk) | 1436 comments They will all suck.

Just keep repeating that and you might like one or two of them. See, satisfaction is calculated as follows:

EXPERIENCE - EXPECTION = SATISFACTION

Set your expectations low enough and you'll automatically raise your satisfaction. And with TV/Movie adaptations of books...you really have to set your expectations LOW!

Aaron Nagy | 510 comments I have a feeling Redshirts will divert massivly from the book but still manage to be good. Old Man's War...probably bad.

Anthony Eichenlaub (anthony_eichenlaub) My guess is that with three shots we will have one show never make it to the screen, one show absolutely suck (for multiple seasons), and one show will be absolutely wonderful but only survive for a single season.

My faith in the television industry is not strong.

I think Old Man's War has the best potential. The world has a lot of depth and there's a lot of really good potential for drama, comedy, and action. If anything kills it it'll be a lack of special effects budget.

Which one is your favorite now?

Theo Shapiro | 20 comments I need to get farther into Old Mans War, but so far Redshirts is. What's yours?

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 89 comments Old Man's has some good people at the helm but notably SyFy has let us down in adaptations (with their direct involvement).

Trike Has SyFy ever done a decent adaptation? I can't think of a single one.

The most complimentary I can be of their competent adaptations (Haven) is that they're boring as hell.

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 775 comments Tune in for the SyFy adaptation of James SA Corey's The Expanse series showing up later this year.

It's supposed to be great and the source material is some of my fave space opera ever written.

Back in 2002 when SYFY was still somewhat serious, they did Taken with Steven Spielberg as Executive producer. It was very good.

Taken isn't an adaptation.
