SOLVED. Fiction book where students overthrow teachers [s]

I read this book years ago and I remember it was sort of old and that it had no cover.
The main character is a boy, probably in middle school.
It talks about how his foster mom covers up the smell of cigarette smoke and cleans up her appearance before seeing his social worker.
The boy befriends a woman janitor. Her name is something like Iva or Ava. Maybe Iris?
Something happens and the students at his school overthrow the teachers and other adults.
The adults decide to fight back by using a machine to turn the children into mini adults.
In the end the kids flush them all into the sewer, except for the janitor.

Ok, I'm going with this is definitely a kids/YA book? What genre is it? How many years ago WAS "years ago"? Was it horror, sci fi, fantasy? How did you find this poor, abused book?

It was maybe 2008 or 2007 and it was definitely a middle school reading level.

"The War Between the Pitiful Teachers and the Splendid Kids" by Stanley Kiesel? I barely remember it from my childhood, but the description sounds right.
