Wrong Page Number

So this one is totally messed up....like there are so many different page numbers even though it's all about the very same edition.
I bought my paperback from the German Amazon (it really is that edition, imported) and online it said 512 pages but mine actually has 642 pages(644 pages if one count the last two pages with advertisement).
The English Amazon says 656 pages which is the closest number to my book.
Can somebody help, please?

You're right, this is a bit of a mess.

Amazon page numbers are notoriously inaccurate. In general, for paperback/hardcover books, we always prefer page counts from users or WorldCat over Amazon. In this instance, WorldCat lists 512 pages, the publisher itself says 656 pages, and of course the book in your hand is 642. Blech!

I have changed it to 642 (no telling how long it will stay), but can you confirm that 642 pages includes the following material (which Goodreads uses to define page count):

"all content except for advertisements and preview chapters for other books. Included end material may include acknowledgments, afterwords, appendices, glossaries, indexes, notes, and suggested discussion questions.

Introductory material paged using roman numerals is not included in the total page count. "

Yes, I can confirm that.
I also noticed that "642" is the last page number that is written-out in the upper corner. The last two pages with advertisement do not have page numbers written on them!
So, it is 642 then ;-)
