Nijhia | 36 comments I'm just really looking for something that mixes World War I with another genre, I feel some need to write something or read something but other than Leviathan -- can anyone give me some suggestions?

Michael Watson | 185 comments It has been a very long time (decades) since I read it, and I hope I am not misremembering the story, but you might likr Michael Moorcock's The Warlord of the Air.

Nora | 124 comments I haven’t read any of these, but I think they fit the bill:

The Foreshadowing

Past Imperative

So Smart in Their Fine Uniforms

Aerulan | 1317 comments Are you set on it being World War I? Or would you be willing to take some set during WWII?
The Gnomewrench in the Dwarfworks & The Gnomewrench in the Peopleworks are a fairly light historical fantasy duo about a man who works for a factory making airplane parts (I think, or something along those lines it's been a long time since I read it) who discovers that it's not just humans who are working to support the war efforts.

For something scifi Blackout and All Clear are very good time travel, a team of historians go back to England during WWII to observe, and things go badly awry.

Gianna ⚔️ (giannadim187) | 33 comments You'll probably want to try the Leviathan trilogy by Scott Westerfeld :)

Etta.n | 93 comments Vellum gets into this a bit, in one of the lives/reincarnations of the protagonist Seamus...

message 7: by Jane (new)

Jane | 17 comments The Great Undead War by Joseph Nassise (first book: By the Blood of Heroes) is a steampunky alternate history WWI series that's fast-paced and fun, even with the serious stakes. I really enjoyed it.

message 8: by Gillian (new)

Gillian Wiseman (gillianwiseman) | 241 comments You could try the Bess Crawford mysteries by Charles Todd; they're historical fiction with excellent murder mysteries thrown in. The first one is A Duty to the Dead

At Night All Blood is Black is a modernist treatment of WWI in the trenches of France involving black (Chocolat) Senegalese soldiers, which incorporates a fairy tale and something which might be a descent into madness or possibly a melding of two souls into one body, or both.

Robert (ricroscupshigh) | 542 comments Barbara Hambly's James Asher series is set in the right time period with Pale guardian set on the front line.

beichst | 172 comments You could try the Great War Series by Harry Turtledove. The overall series has 11 books starting with the first one How Few Remain which is an alternate history starting with the South winning the Civil War and the followup to that. The series then moves to three sub-sets of books the first of which entitled the Great War starts with an alternate WW1. While you can start with the Great War sub-series itself, I would recommend reading How Few Remain first just to get some of the context.

MJ | 1617 comments I may have this timing wrong (it’s been a whole since I read it), but maybe the Helen Foster series?

Judy | 50 comments From the Napoleonic era, there's His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...), an alt-history use of dragons in war.
Mercedes Lackey's Elemental Masters series (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...) is set during the Edwardian era, just prior to WWI and magic is real (though not everyone has it or can use it).
