Lara | 2335 comments Last night I was trying to decide what to read when I got my update of post from this thread. So, I picked up and read two stories.

Cherry Dreams by Lilith Duvalier was only about the sex with a female dom who generally didn't use force, ties, or pain so much as control. The sex scenes were the most detailed and explicit of any I've ever read. There's only a short segment when they aren't having sex, and even then they're thinking and talking about it.

The other story I read was Wild Card (Down & Dirty, #1) by Moira Rogers which is a post-apocalyptic Western with werewolves. It had a plot that wasn't about the sex, some of which could be described as BDSM-lite. There is some spanking, loose tying up, and ordering around. But, nothing so serious as to require safe words. This story was actually rather fun despite its limitations (little world building and too-quick changes of mind). I wouldn't mind revisiting some of the characters in other stories.

Sounds crazy doesn't it? But, it really reads like small ranching town with a woman werewolf rancher. Wait, shouldn't the cows be afraid of her wolfiness?

Silvia i just finished Holding The Cards (Nature of Desire, #1) by Joey W. Hill
I gave it 4 stars because it was well written but plot moved too slow for my taste.

For you guys considering Captive in the Dark (The Dark Duet, #1) by C.J. Roberts
read it NOW! It's still my favorite in this genre.

Elizabeth (elizabeth_greece) | 84 comments I finished Edge of the Enforcer (Mountain Masters & Dark Haven, #4) by Cherise Sinclair and gave it 3.5 stars. Not my favorite of the series but I haven't read any Cherise Sinclair's book that I didn't enjoy!

oh yes. Cherise Sinclair is queen of these books. I love her Master of Mountain series. It's better than the Club Shadowlands, in my opinion

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) I got another read finished last night:Hitched. I rated it 2 stars and wrote a very lengthy review for it. The first book in the series, Roped, was much better.

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) I finished up the third in the Heart of the West series last night: Lassoed. I was very disappointed in it. It seemed way shorter than even the other two in the series, and it was practically the same scenario as the second book in the series, just with two different people and a different method of angst. I'll be rating it two stars.

message 67: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments That would be disappointing.

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) Lisa Kay wrote: "That would be disappointing."

It was, and it had the potential to be so much better! The one fear of the BDSM community would be that a truly sadistic person goes into the lifestyle and winds up hurting a sub. That exact scenario was at the heart of this book, however, much of it was glossed over. I personally would have liked to know more about the entire situation: the abuse, the healing, the counseling, all of what the heroine endured to be a survivor. Instead, we're only given minimal details. I could have seen this book as a way of helping other survivors of spousal abuse cope and move past their own situations, but with how superficial this story was, it could never be that motivational force.

I'm done. I gave it 2 stars instead on 1 because the hero was gentle and caring and I like the cover! The writing and the story sucked!

Ugh, and I bought this right before the big bruhaha going on. Sounds like I might have wasted my money...but I'll read it anyway. It may go better for me than it did for you.

For BDSM, the first place I turn is any of Olivia Cunning's books, followed by Jaci Burton's works and Mari Carr's as well. Lila DuBois is another author that has a unique twist on the lifestyle. Selena Kitt does a wide array of Erotica, not just BDSM, but her title A Modern Wicked Fairy Tale: Alice is another good read, and short as well! I'd also recommend my first read of the month: Wrapped Around Your Finger. It was very good!

Hayley (mrsjohnson1985) | 718 comments Thank you Trea. You're always so awesome at recommending books! I'm new to this genre. I've only ever read 50 Shades, which... That's pretty tame, or at least, I imagine it is.

I actually just started reading Roped (Purgatory Club, #1) by Eliza Gayle since it was free & also very short :). I am going to look into the ones you just recommended as well.

Yes, it really wasn't what I expected. The heroine is a cattle rancher, but it's really only through some backstory that you realize the time is in the future and werewolves are more common. There were a couple of funny moments related to a supporting character as well. I'm thinking I'll probably pick up the nest story.

Hayley (mrsjohnson1985) | 718 comments I finished Roped (Purgatory Club, #1) by Eliza Gayle last night. Very short story. It's a good "scene" that is told through the eyes of a woman. I enjoyed it. Like I said, super short.

I finished it last night as well and pretty much agree with your thoughts on it too!

message 92: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I finished Hidden Agendas (Tempting SEALs, #4) by Lora Leigh - not as much focus on the BDSM as in the previous books in the series. I enjoyed the romance and the suspense plot.

message 93: by Hayley (new)

Hayley (mrsjohnson1985) | 718 comments Awesome Trea. I thought it was good, just not long enough LOL. But, I think all the little novellas in this particular series are just "scenes" from that club.

Its OK. Actually I think that this one is better than the first two books. The romance was more believable.

I can recommend Lora Leigh's Breeds series if you want to give her writing a try. It is PNR and quite a longs series to date but you can try the first book and see if you like it Tempting the Beast (Breeds, #1) by Lora Leigh

message 98: by Hayley (new)

Hayley (mrsjohnson1985) | 718 comments Lauren - I have actually read one of her books, Wild Card (Elite Ops, #1) by Lora Leigh , which I really enjoyed! Just haven't picked up the next book in the series. One of my friends also recommended the Breeds series to me too! I may try it out someday soon too.

message 99: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Wild Card (Elite Ops, #1) by Lora Leigh is actually book #1 in the Elite Ops series which is a spin off of Tempting Seals (Hidden Agendas is book #4 ). So if you enjoyed Wild Card then you will enjoy Tempting Seals. I say give it a go :0)

message 100: by Hayley (new)

Hayley (mrsjohnson1985) | 718 comments Yeah, I noticed that whenever I read it that it was a spin-off. I wasn't sure if I had to read Tempting Seals to understand what was happening in Elite ops, but I understood everything :). I really liked Wild Card! It was a great read!
