Why not? I'm sure it's just a matter of a story touching a producer or director in some way. Who's to say what interests each of us?

Why not both?! I'd love to see a telling of 1922, too.

Completely agree with you Tom!

Sheila | 16 comments Am I the only one who's concerned that this is a Lifetime MOV? I mean, unless they've changed, don't they typically do the Harlequin Romance inspired MOV? I just hope they capture the real darkness and torment her soul goes through in her revenge journey. I think the actors chosen are promising, just still have my doubts about the network. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I don't think we should be worried because it's on Lifetime. I admit that I actually have watched a few things on there recently. Maybe trying to tweak their image a little?

I hope that you're right, I will watch it and see. :)
Full Dark, No Stars was the most 'adult' horror I think I've read from King. Don't get me wrong, I love his other work too but they typically speak more to the child in me, making you wonder about the dark corners, what's under the bed type of thing. Which is deliciously fun!

Full Dark, No Stars was more of an unsettling feeling of horror. It brought me to a place where I felt I was challenged on how I felt about things and it left me contemplative. I liked that affect and hope it carries through with the adaptation.

Damn, now I want to read it again... it's been a long time, but revenge is becoming a big thing in MY writing, so....

Okay did the audio book and it was amazing except for one thing... this story unlike so many others, has such a sense of building terror, that having heard once (at least for me) can't quite be recaptured... that sense of astonishment that I felt the first time I read it just wasn't quite there. Still great, still gripping, but that sense of amazement with the culvert... or when she first faces that dog, can't quite be recaptured because part of the greatness of the work was the suspense. Still a great re-read... I'm on to the rest of the stories now.

As for the TV movie... I've been disappointed over and over again, but what the hell, why not?

I just hope they stay true to the story.

Kandice | 4387 comments My one worry with Lifetime would be them downplaying the mother's part in everything and trying to put the majority of the blame on the men.

Olympia Dukakis... if she can't play mom in all her complexity who can? at least the casting is right.

Kandice | 4387 comments I agree with your opinion of Olympia's acting chops, but Lifetime tends to be a "man bashing" channel and this book is definitely NOT that!

I don't watch it so I guess I didn't pick up on that though in Big Driver, the women are the only ones with any smarts.

Kandice | 4387 comments Hmmmm...hadn't thought of that! Maybe this really is the perfect Lifetime project. :D

Guess maybe in his own way King is a feminist, not because he portrays men as dumb, but because he female heroes are so strong.

I don't know if it's that so much, I think he portrays heroes that one wouldn't normally or easily see the strength in. All of his heroes are underdogs....that's why we root for them so much.

There is an aspect of "popular" feminism, in my opinion, that seems to think the key to women's strength is to denigrate men. Nothing could be further from the truth, there is never any strength that is truly gained by putting anyone else down, because that never elevates you it only give the appearance of elevating you by diminishing someone else. It is the "easy" way of demonstrating something, and since my impression of Lifetime and it's choices has been that it's primarily fluff, this is where I have concerns about the adaptation on their network. I can't criticize the players they've hired though, all very skilled actors. We'll see how it plays out I guess.
