Shehreyar | 3 comments I'm looking for a book/series which is about the beginning of an era of superhumans/superheroes. As in, they didn't exist before. It would be great if the novel included the fallout of such an event across the world, but that isn't necessary. Anything along the lines of the first appearance of superhumans will do. It doesn't even matter if it only concerns a single superhuman individual. A good example of this would be the Jumper series, which was great at depicting the government's response to the protagonist, and later his family, having the ability to teleport.

Thanks!

Steelheart is great. Sadly, I've already read it.

Trike Turbulence by Samit Basu.

The Awakening by Michael Carroll kinda-sorta fits this. All the superheroes in the world were obliterated in a big battle... then nothing for years. Then a pair of teenage boys discover they have powers.

Wild Cards is exactly this. A space virus infects the planet. Most people who get it die, but some are turned into superpowered beings, called Aces. Some are turned into physical monsters, known as Jokers. Not all Aces are heroes and very few Jokers are villains. There are 20-some books in the series so far, most written by the biggest names in SFF. George R.R. Martin, Melinda Snodgrass, Roger Zelazny, Walter Jon Williamson, etc.

Bitter Seeds by Ian Tregillis. Alt-WW II. The Nazis have superhumans so the British counter with wizards.

Uber Volume 1 — the comic book version of the above story, except with superpowers on both sides,

Shehreyar | 3 comments Thank you. I've heard about Wild Cards, but it had completely slipped my mind. I think I'll give it, and the others, a shot.
