Florence, around what year did you read this book? A range of years is fine. This will help us narrow down the search.
Is this a picture book (about 32-48 pages) or a chapter book with mostly words?
Can you describe the illustrations - realistic/cartoony/cute, simple/detailed, painted watercolors/bold graphics, bright/dark/muted colors/black & white? Do they remind you of another illustrator or picture book author?

This book appears to be too recent, but I'll mention it just in case -
I Can Save the Earth!: One Little Monster Learns to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle by Alison Inches? The little monster is named Max.

I would have read it in the mid 90s. It’s a picture book. The pictures are in colour and fairly detailed I think.

I had to look up "bottle bank." I think it's what people in the U.S. would call a recycling bin. Only it's a public one, according to pics.
