I'm reading the 2004 Leisure Western, originally it was a short story titled 'The Six-Gun Sinner', that Les expanded into a full length book. Knew that Logan Stewart was a pseudo name of his, but interestingly the page count in Rails West is 160 and West of Laramie 206.

Anything Matt Braun wrote is excellent, read a bunch of them and glad to see that they are reprinting his books, slowly.

I read his "Outlaw Kingdom" last summer and enjoyed it.
His last book was Western Lore in 2013, only in hardcover, not available on amazon and hard to find used.
Lowell wrote: "started, william johnstone - the trail west "monahans massacre""I read the first one, won't bother with the 2nd book in the series.

just finished, it was not up to his previous books.
I finished Alan LeMay's The Unforgiven a couple weeks ago—still need to write a review. Very good.I've also just finished editing an ebook collection of B.M. Bower short stories, The Girl From Kilpatrick's and Other Stories, all from early 20th-century fiction magazines and to my knowledge never reprinted till now—a fun project!

Some of the finest Western tales are in the short story format. They don't get the attention that they deserve in my humble opinion.
I'm still working on this months Group Read Bandera Pass and packed Saddle the Storm by Harry Whittington for a long international flight tonight. My reading has really slowed down since Spring arrived. Busy time of year.
Like Edwin, I'm behind in my reading of this month's selection since it's the time of year to get busy on my 5 acres, and the walleye run has been great on the river, so with work it's been a case of stretching myself a bit thin.Should be getting back to normal soon.
I've been reading my NetGalley approvals to get reviews in, so that and catching up on older books in series from my 'to read' shelf have been fit in when I've found time.
Thinking I need to come up with somewhat of a plan to organize my schedule of books to read but not so structured that it becomes less enjoyable.
Tim McNutt wrote: "Is Matt Braun still writing? I think I've read just about all his books."Sadly, Matt Braun has passed away.
Weird that his website nor wiki mention his death, but did see a Pool publication that mentions his death.
Just finished "Last of the Doanes," "The Man of the Forest." and "The Thundering Herd' all by Zane Grey."Last of the Doanes" about a gunfighter was written in 1914 was originally combined with "The Lone Star Ranger."
"The Man of the Forest" is one of his weaker efforts--too much philosophizing about Darwinian Laws and slow pace.
The copy the"The Thundering Herd" that I have is illustrated. It's about buffalo hunting and is one of Grey's better works.
ReadingRebel Yell: The Violence, Passion, and Redemption of Stonewall Jackson right now to take a break from fiction. Great storytelling so far.
I just finished and reviewed Under Fire by Charles King, a cavalry-themed Western from 1894. Since I've always enjoyed cavalry movies such as John Ford's trilogy, I've wished for a while that I could find a good older novel on that topic, and this one admirably filled the bill.
I picked up the newly released 52 Weeks, 52 Western Novels: Old Favorites and New Discoveries. Fascinating book for Westerns readers. Highly recommended. Four of the 52 have been American Westerns group reads - Outrage at Blanco, The Virginian: A Horseman of the Plains, Wolf Moon, and True Grit.

The description of West of Laramie looked really familiar. It's turns out that I read the same book, except it was called Rails West by Logan Stewart, Fawcett Gold Medal #367. Good book.
