Various Authors, Edited Works

What is the policy on edited works by various authors?

Here is a specific, but I've seen many such instances:

Prefaces and Prologues to Famous Books
OR
Prefaces and Prologues to Famous Books: Part 39 Harvard Classics

I started to edit the books in this second work which has the first author as the editor, when I realized there might be a different policy.

If there is a known individual editor (or editors), of a book with many authors, the editor (credited as such) should be listed as the primary author.
