Same here! :D
I want to be a writer too.
Have you posted any of your works here?

message 1556: by Rachel (last edited Mar 05, 2012 02:06AM) (new)

Rachel (almostasandwich) Nope, I probably won't either. I'm too worried it would take away my first publication rights. Although, I guess I could post some of my short stories. Have you posted anything here?

message 1557: by Sandee is Reading (new)

Sandee is Reading (sandeeisreading) I did. But mostly just my poems. Not my stories yet. :p Don't think they're ready for public viewing yet. :D

Monica | 3 comments Hello, my name is Monica. I immensely enjoy reading! I'm a grade 11 student and thought this group would be a great way to learn about new groups. Some of my favorite authors include, J.K Rowling, Ellen Hopkins, Cassandra Clare, Maggie Stiefvater and C.C Hunter.

Amanda Clarity (amandaclarity) | 1 comments Hey! my name is amanda and i am a YA paranormal book lover! i am a super speed reader i've read 56 400+ page books in two months. I'm 13 and currently writing my own book (Paranormal YA)i love to review and to read new books every day!

message 1560: by Aryn (new)

Aryn (thenrrdling) Hello! My name is Aryn, and I love books of all sort. I'm 24, going to be 25 in May. I read a lot of YA, as well as Adult. I think YA books are just as relavent and important to our culture as Adult books are. Genre-wise I'll read just about anything but mysteries and crime-dramas; those books simply don't do anything for me.

Cynthia | 1 comments I am an English teacher and I love to read what the students suggest. I have read The Hunger Games, Crank, and many others based on student suggestions. I also like to suggest books to my students. I am looking forward to getting some new suggestions for my classroom library to lend to my students.

Rachelia (Bookish Comforts) (bookishcomforts) Hi everyone! My name is Rachelia, and I'm a 21 year old university student (taking history and gender studies) who lives at home with her parents in Canada. I just started a book blog {Bookish Comforts} and am trying to get more involved in the book community.

I'm excited for school to be done in August so that I can have much more time to read all the books on my list! :)

message 1565: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (Pauline07) | 3 comments Hi! I'm a teenager with enough hormones to kill a moose and the knowledge to figure out how to do it. Currently, I will be going to high school in the fall (gasp!) in 9th grade.
I love to read and my record for finishing a book is about 4 hours. My favorite genres are paranormal, fantasy, and science fiction, as well as dystopian novels. I mostly read young adult since I haven't really found that many adult books that have stricken my fancy. I also love crime dramas, but I usually don't end up reading it unless it has the supernatural mixed in.
I also love to write. I mostly write fanfictions, but I have an original novel in the works called First Psychic. I have four active fanfictions posted on fanfiction.net, two for Power Rangers, one for Saved! (its a movie that came out in 2004) and a crossover that pulls in several different shows. I may also be persuaded to update a one-shot Buffy/Power Rangers crossover, but I've really only gotten one reveiw about it, so I'm not to sure anyone would read it, which would make that sort of pointless.
I joined this group because I've powerhoused my way through a lot of books and thought I might get better recomendations here then from my friends, one of whom is partial to non-fiction while the other really doesn't have my same tastes. Also, I thought the discussions might give me a little bit of practice for lit. classes when I get older.
I can't wait to start!

Michelle (unfinishedbookshelf) | 9 comments Hi! I am a reader, movie lover and Beatles obsessed. I have always loved to read and I try to read as many different generas as possible. I am currently studying Journalism at university and slowly reading books. I tend to finish books at a very slow rate when I am studying, but as soon as my holidays come around I never put my books down. I have just started a book/moive/TV show review blog, so please feel free to check it out: http://mareemusings.blog.com. I have joined a number of reading challanges this year to try and reach my reading goal of 150 books in 2012. Hopefully I can make it!

Cheleee | 1 comments Holla, gang! Chele - epic fantasy lover, YA reader, and massively-backlogged TBR list owner - at your service ;D Can't wait to get more book recommendations (because clearly the aformentioned massive list needs to be added to... -cough-) and all that fun stuff! <3

Also - reading challenges? BRING IT ;D

message 1569: by David (new)

David Dawson | 4 comments Hello, I'm David, 32, from Sheffield, UK, and I read mostly YA books (barring the odd murder mystery with cats or dotty old ladies in it). I also write YA books too, first for my own enjoyment and now out of simple ego to see what people think of what I do (mostly good so far). Groups like these are also helping me discover books that I've never heard of before and now enjoy.

message 1570: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (itsbrb) Hello everyone! I'm Brittany, 23, originally from Ohio and now live in North Carolina. I am an 8th grade teacher that co-teaches with Math and Language Arts teachers. I have found that I like different types of genres but the one I have been reading most recently is the dystopian genre. I just finished up with Hunger Games and loved it but my favorite book so far has been Child 44 (futuristic dystopia- I believe). I also just recently finished the Shadow Children series and loved it as well. I like reading things that don't make sense or are unfamiliar to me. I joined for more recommendations because I have been getting some good ones recently.

I may be wrong about futuristic dystopia because it does bring up the Stalin era and how everyone felt during that time period....

message 1572: by Mharey (new)

Mharey Almacha | 1 comments hi! My name is Mharey. Phil. Young Adult reader. I read a lot of books but there's only one book that stands out for me and that is The Best of Friends. As much that I loved reading books, I also love writing short stories. Dreaming to be a writer someday as well :)

message 1573: by Kim (new)

Kim (bookishkim) | 10 comments Hey, I'm Kim, 26 from New Zealand. I just recently bought an ereader, and at the same time joined goodreads.com. Since then I've been reading YA books non stop - mainly dystopian/sci fi genre.

I joined this group to find other people into the same genre of books to discuss them with, and also to find new books to read!

Feel free to add me as a friend if you're interested, I'm always looking for new people to chat to!

message 1574: by Laura (new)

Someone who reads as fast as me! hello :)

message 1576: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Grieser | 2 comments Hello fellow readers! I am a recently graduated public relations student from Nebraska, and am living in France for the next year as an Au Pair. I absolutely love to read, I always finish books within a day or two, a bad habit for me because I want to be able to slowly enjoy them- but I indulge too much. I am wondering if there are any Nook owners who want to be friends? I am finding my habits to become pretty expensive and want to see if people want to lend to each other!

message 1577: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) Hey Jessica - a way to get free ebooks plus learn about new and not-so-new authors is to volunteer as a reviewer. I sometimes pick up a book at http://readersfavorite.com/ and once I finish, I have to post a 250 word review (not that difficult, plus it helps me focus in my reading). Some of the stuff I've read is blah, but I have found a couple great Indie authors through it, and now follow them around like lost puppies. If you download (for free) Calibre (it converts ebooks from one software to another), you can convert what you download into Nook-compliant, and you're good to go. I know there are other sites that also ask for reviewers, plus authors on GoodReads are always looking for people to review.

message 1578: by Psylk (new)

Psylk | 2 comments Hey Everyone I am new to the group! It looks awesome so far. I thought I would introduce myself.

I am Robyn. Just turned 22 and I am NOT ashamed to admit I am a YA addict. I do read other stuff but honestly I just adore YA. My current obsession is all things dystopian!
I am currently in college getting my Bachelor's in Social Work. Hopefully it wont be too horribly long before I am finished up with that. Since I am always studying I dont have quite as much time to read as I would like, but I still find the time.
Most of my free time is spent curled up in a chair with my Kindle and my cat.

I really look forward to getting to know all of you and hopefully finding some great new book recommendations!

message 1579: by Liz (new)

Liz Hello! My name is Liz. I am married & the mother of 2 - one boy & one girl. Other than reading, I love quilting, watching movies, dancing, & photographing my children, family & friends (hoping to open business in the next few years when my kids start school).

I'm also a sucker for YA fiction - mostly paranormal, dystopian, fantasy . . . . I'm mostly here to explore for now. I've been in many groups on goodreads, but find myself continually simplifying & just sticking with my absolute favorites, so I don't get so overwhelmed with all the group reads. YA books are such quick reads, & I'm always wanting an excuse to read them; I figured this group would be a good & realistic one to participate in. I'm excited to try this out!!!

message 1580: by Mic (new)

Mic Hi ,
I'm Mic. 19 and from Belgium. When I was a kid , I was obsessed with the "Harry Potter" books. Those were the only books I read.( + the books I needed to read for school )

Now some years later I'm reading more than ever. It started a few months ago , when I read "The Hunger Games." Look where I am now : completed the hunger games and already on my third new YA novel.

Lovin' every second of it so far.

I'm excited to meet new people and talk about YA books.

Bye ;)

message 1581: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Hi! My name is Vicki. I am 31 and I live in New Jersey. I am a high school English teacher, currently teaching freshmen. I enjoy reading many types of books but focus on contemporary fiction, YA, and historical fiction. I am a proud owner of a little Maltese named Daisy and I also enjoy a variety of crafts, such as floral arranging, jewelry making, and mixed media art.

I look forward to chatting and reading with all of you.

message 1582: by Allie (new)

Allie (alliefrost) | 2 comments Hiya! I'm Aly, EST US, and I have only discovered YA books within the last year or so even though I'm in my early 20s, I have quite a lot of exploring to do. I'm really into dystopian books right now, but honestly, I just love reading. My favorite author at the moment is John Green though.

I'm planning on being an elementary school teacher and I also love childrens books, even though they seem to be regularly predictable. At least more so than YA books, but I love them anyway.

Lets see....I do believe that is it. I'm open to talk anytime I'm online :) I dunno if we have a PM system or anything, I've yet to look into that and I only signed up today. But I think this is enough on me right now.

message 1583: by Melinda (last edited Mar 31, 2012 09:11PM) (new)

Melinda (mwood) Hey everyone! My name's Melinda and I've always had a love for reading and have recently renewed my passion by devouring some pretty good YA titles. I've come to realize that there are some good stories out there waiting to be read, but I had previously dismissed them because of the audience they were intended for - that's not for me, I told myself. And yet, here we are. ;) Looking forward to some good discussion and good exposure to other YA books and series. :)

☆∞Love Frances∞☆ (literaryfollies) | 9 comments Hola friends!
My name is Fran & I LOOOVE to read. My fondest memories of childhood were spent in the East Norwalk, Ct. library.
I have a little book review blog that I wish I had more time for. I feel bad, I had such high hopes for it, but life is as it is..
I normally read a book in a day or two.
I love YA/Dystopians/Paranormal I also read normal fiction, biographies, etc. I have been fond of historical romances too.
I love Goodreads. I have discovered so many great books on this site.
I am doing my first group read along this month (in this group) I have always wanted to do something like that so its pretty cool that Wither is the book of choice.
Uhm. I am a bit boring to be honest. I think the most exciting thing I do is go into abandoned building to search for ghosts. I love all things paranormal related.
If you're from CT and want to ghost hunt send me a message!
I also love cupcakes and latte's (I was hooked on the big "C's" looong before they were "cool" btw) Dunkin D's by my house knows me as the "Large Iced Caramel Swirl Latte girl" w/whipped :)
Send me a message if you wanna say hi or chit chat about books, cupcakes, ghosts, life...

Welcome! I love paranormal stuff too though I'm a bit of a fraidy cat so I can't do much research on the topic without feeling out of sorts for days...I too will be reading along with Wither. I also love libraries. They feel so much like home to me! Essentially I am from Connecticut since my ancestors helped found lots of big cities there but my family has not lived there in over 100 years...so yeah...Welcome again!

message 1591: by Tiffany (last edited Apr 03, 2012 10:28PM) (new)

Tiffany (tiffanyrose) Hi! I'm Tiffany, a 20 year old from New Zealand. Currently, I'm in University doing a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Political Science. If all goes well, I graduate at the end of the year! Uni isn't the most exciting thing ever so reading is my escape, as it has always been.

My favourite genres are fantasy and historical. I basically love books that take me to a place and/or time that I have never been. I tend to not go for books that are based on "real life" unless there is an element of magic in it.

My favourite authors, of the top of my head, are Maria V. Snyder, Tamora Pierce, and Juliet Marillier.

message 1592: by Alicia (new)

Danielle (dannieannie94) | 3 comments Hi everyone, I'm Danielle. I'm a sucker for young adult and latley cannot get enough to read! I'm currently going to college, I work two jobs, and I have to spare time for my amazing boyfriend. I find it hard to find time to read so only the most captivating stories are on my reading lists for the time being. If you enjoy realistic fiction, and fantasy we'd get along great :).

Books have got to be one of my favourite things in life. Right now I am in a YA-dystopia reading frenzy!
Currently reading: Divergent, by Veronica Roth.

Sharon | 21 comments Hi! I'm Sharon. Compared to most of the posts I see here I'm really old. Oh well...I still love reading ya books! My sister got me back into them a few years ago and I just can't get enough. I read adult books also. My favorite ya books are pnr and dystopian.

Cantadora Press (cantadorapress) | 2 comments Hello everyone! My name is Russell James. I am an editor, literary agent, and ebook publisher at James Literary Services and its imprint Cantadora Press. I have been involved in the publishing business for almost 15 years and I am a published author myself. I recently took on a YA Christian fiction novelist as a client and I'm getting prepared to get her published!

I am really looking forward to this group so that I can monitor how things are in the YA world and maybe get some pointers from those experienced in the genre on how to best market my client to YA publishers. If you have any ideas, I'd love to know what they are.

Anyway, I look forward to this group.

Kelly Oram (kellyoram) Hey everyone. I'm new to the group but excited to join. I LOVE YA. Any YA books. I'm not picky as to genre. I have way too many favorite authors to name them all but the short list would probably be Kelley Armstrong, Meg Cabot, John Green, Simone Elkeles, Cassandra Claire... I could go on forever.

I'm the YA author of Being Jamie Baker My second book is coming out this June, which I'm excited about. But I'm as much of a reader as I am a writer. I read on average 2 to 3 books a week, which doesn't leave me much time for anything else considering I have 4 children to deal with.

I started a YA book club locally here in the town I live in and we've been going two years strong now, but I decided I wanted to be part of one online as well. I'm excited to jump in to discussion!

Welcome! I am terrified about entering ninth grade to because my school is going to e super overcrowded! I'm sure if I read I'll be okay though. Writing has not been coming easily to me as far as writing an actual book goes, but I'm excited to see how yours turns out! I wish I could read as fast as you do because I have a whole bookcase of unread books that is GIANT!!
