We recently selected the 2011 winner, along with four honor books. http://tinyurl.com/5pfyo5 I love YA fiction and am so thrilled to see it coming into its own! I am a teen librarian at a large county library system in Ohio. I am also a poet and aspiring YA writer. I review books for VOYA and write the occasional article for that journal. Look forward to being part of this group!

Becca Ritchie (beccaritchie) Hey all, I'm Becca. Currently I go to UGA, and I adore reading almost all YA. I just started goodreads, and I'm really excited to join a YA group! (a lot of people I've met in college don't enjoy YA all that much)

message 1158: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1 comments Hello everyone! :)
I'm Alicia and I'm so glad that I found this Book Club.
I love reading. I have a huge passion for literature, and writing. I collect quotes as a hobby and I think the perfect day is sitting on the couch on a rainy day reading a good book with a cup of tea and maybe some chocolate.

message 1159: by Zainab (new)

Zainab | 1 comments Hiya, I'm Zainab from Oz :)
Obviosly, I love reading and I enjoy YA in particular, although I don't like reading them too often cause I get all mushy and carried away in them. I'm in my last year of High School and I'm hoping I can still balance my school work and reading.
byee

message 1160: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1 comments Hey guys,
I'm Rachel and I am a 20 year old college student (full time). Usually on my breaks I just go to a bookstore and sit and read for hours. I love YA books, even though people think I've out grown them. I read more than my friends and am excited to be able to actually talk about the books that I read. :)

message 1161: by L (new)

L (laurreadsthings) | 2 comments I'm not sure if I did this already, but here I go.

I'm Laur. 23 from NYC. I love to read, just started up again. Hoping I can keep it up. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like.

message 1163: by Abby (new)

Abby (abgl) | 2 comments Hey everyone! I'm Bhie, I'm from the Philippines. I enjoy reading, fiction, ya, paranormal, anything and everything that I feel like reading.
I joined hoping for more ya book recommendations, what's hot and what's not. And also I'll join challenges if I can. Happy reading fellow bookworms! :)

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) Hi everyone,

I'm Kat and live in the Southeast US; I have two grown boys (21 and 19), and my 19 yr old loves to read almost as much as I do. I joined GR 3 yrs ago, and this group tonight :)

I read almost any type of book, but I tend to stay away from full on romance novels. I have recently fallen back in love with YA and thought this would be a great place to find recommendations instead of depending on the "buy me now" shelves in the book stores.

Look forward to getting to know everyone.

message 1165: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (seymourfedme) | 3 comments Hello YA readers! My name is Nicole (obviously) and I am a full-time student/mother of 3! I enjoy reading YA because they are just fun to read!

message 1166: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (cinephiledreams) Hi! I'm Shelby, a junior in college. I'm a creative writing major who still has a healthy obsession with YA Lit, and I'm typing away toward my dream YA writing career. I read plenty of YA all the time, but my schoolwork demands are starting to increase, and I thought joining this group would offer extra motivation toward reading "drivel," as my professors like to call it. ;) I can't wait to get reading!

message 1167: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Honenberger (sarahhonenberger) | 56 comments I'll be leading the discussion on The Iron King in March. Looking forward to hearing from you'all, so pls mark your calendars and start reading. I'm working on questions now, am a novelist myself, and my favorite book when I was a teenager was Rosemary Sutcliffe's The Mark of the Horse Lord. Sarah Collins HonenbergerThe Iron King

message 1168: by LauraW (new)

LauraW (lauralynnwalsh) I am Laura. I currently live in Colorado, but recently moved here from Fairbanks, Alaska. I am a substitute teacher and I have two grown children (and three grand-kitties). My current main reading interest is coming-of-age stories from various countries around the world.

message 1169: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Honenberger (sarahhonenberger) | 56 comments Great idea to pick a theme for reading. Check out CATCHER, CAUGHT by Sarah Collins Honenberger(me) and SOLD by Patricia McCormick, a national book award finalist about Afghanistan girl sold into slave trade. Google either to see the professional reviews of both books.

message 1170: by Audiaa (new)

Audiaa | 7 comments Hi everyone,I'm Audiaa, and I live in Colorado, too. I'm a college instructor, and I teach science courses. I enjoy reading whatever I want when I have free time. I especially seem to like YA as I've noticed of all the books I've read about 2/3 of them are YA. I also read science fiction, fantasy, and non-fiction. Since I got a Kindle about two and a half years ago, I read much more since I can read while I'm walking or riding the bus or wherever I happen to find a little bit of time.

message 1171: by Eden (new)

message 1174: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sb3626) | 5 comments Hi! I'm about 15 years old I love to read but when comes to writing I can write history papers better then I can write English right now. I hope to one day change that but at this time I am still a big fan of run-on sentences. I love to read and really wish that I had more time to, hopefully that's going to change soon.

message 1175: by [deleted user] (new)

message 1178: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Hey everyone! My name is Alicia, 21, and I'm a student in Ontario, Canada. In terms of YA books, I particularly enjoy YA historical fiction, YA fantasy, YA dystopian and contemporary or realistic YA that covers a wide variety of teen issues. The only YA I don't like is paranormal romance or general paranormal-type YA books. I was in another YA group for a while, but found it very disappointing. I searched out this group as an alternative, and it looks fantastic! I look forward to chatting books!

I also like vegetarian cooking, television and movies. Cheers!

message 1179: by Amanda (new)

I hope to have so good times here and meet a lot of new people. Happy Reading!!

message 1186: by Sleepy (new)

Sleepy Booknerd Hi, so I’ve been a long time lurker of good reads, and just recently joined. I enjoy reading, and even more then that I enjoy reviewing and discussing books. This looks like a really interesting group, and I can’t wait to talk about books with everyone!

message 1187: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (snugshelf) Hi new people. :) I'm Amanda, welcome!

Betty, I'm very jealous, I've heard France is beautiful. :) I'm learning a tinyyy bit of French right now too.

This is kinda random, but I love your name Talia! I hope you enjoy it here.

Hi Lesli, I think Willows is a pretty awesome name for a town. Much better than mine, Memphis heh. :) I've heard veryyy good things about Clockwork Angel.

& Mary, I'm a 17 yr old junior in high school. :) I think you'll really like this book club, it's had some really great books chosen for group reads, I've liked every one that I've read, I think.

Lacy, I think you'll definitely like it here, it's one of the best book clubs on Goodreads, in my humble opinion. :)

^I apologize for super long post haha.

message 1191: by Sun (new)

Sun (the one that glows in the dark, of course) (sun39) | 5 comments Hi. My name is Syafiqah. I live in Sabah, Malaysia, where the turtles and the corals live in prosperity in our beaches. hee. I love books very much and I have my personal library in my bed. I sleep with books.
I like reading people's review about books. I don't know why. I just wished that I could be that articulate with words.
Presently I am waiting for my SPM result, which is the college entrance exam equivalent in other countries.
I'm 18, the first daughter of 5 siblings. My mom and dad are still romantic as ever and I wish I would find someone like my dad. I know I'm babbling. I'm really new here in Goodreads. Suffice for me to say, I really really really am obsessed with reading.

message 1192: by Ann (new)

Ann (annabell123) | 45 comments Hi everyone! My name is Ann. I am 23 and live in central Minnesota. Welcome everyone! So glad to see soooo many new members. I have met a lot of good friends on goodreads in groups and I hope you all do too!

message 1194: by [deleted user] (new)

My name's Nelly I love reading, writing, writing, and reading. Did I mention reading and writing? I can't wait to read the next book!

message 1195: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, I'm Dawn...I read YA by default. Well....that's what I say to avoid any embarrassment. ;-) I have 5 daughters (15-22) and I like to read what they're reading so we can talk about it. I have 3 sons, too, but with the exception of my youngest (a 13 yr. old with special needs) they're non-readers. *tear*

Anyway, I truly do enjoy a YA book every now and then. I love books that write like someone's talking and YA books seem to do that as a rule, whereas a lot of adult books are hit or miss. I belong to a book club and have even chosen a YA book for discussion at some point in our 11 years of meeting. I think sometimes YA books are underrated. I'm not so into the paranormal stuff that seems to be a big hit right now...or maybe I just haven't given it a chance?? I don't know, but I'm always open to suggestions and look forward to reading books...PERIOD!!!

message 1196: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rbg23) Hello! My name is Kristy and I'm 26. I live in Southern California but am originally from Texas. I love YA science fiction and fantasy. It is my favorite genre. I also have just recently purchased a nook and while I do love it, sometimes there is nothing compared to actually holding the book. I look forward to all the future group reads!

I love the idea of sharing my thoughts on these books and look forward to my first book discussion with everyone.
