Daniel (djw64) | 1 comments Hi!

My name is Daniel and I am from sydney Australia. I wasnt much of 'reader' when I was younger, but over the last year or so I have really enjoyed reading a variety of books. I particularly enjoy reading YA books - some of my favourites include the Twilight series, Atremis Fowl, The Study series and I am currently enjoying the Percy Jackson series.

I hope that joining this group will help me find good books to read in the YA genre.

message 602: by Nightshade (new)

Nightshade Hiiii I'm Nightshade! Obviously it's not my real name, but my stalkerphobia dictates that I go by Nightshade online. ;) Umm... I read obsessively, all my friends think I'm insane for it, and I tend to obsess over small things, like grammar and spelling. :D

message 603: by Nightshade (new)

Nightshade Heh, yeah, that might happen... although my parents aren't English teachers. I'm just OCD. ;D

message 607: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Hi! My name is Cindy and I'm a hard core reader. I review over at Fantasy Book Critic, where my focus is fantasy of any type (middle grade, YA, and adult).

I will pretty much read anything put in front of me and love to discuss what I'm reading with people.

In my off time I play video games, enjoy dancing and watching some of my favorite TV shows.

message 608: by Anne (new)

Anne Amundson (iswallowedthesnitch) Hi guys! I'm Anne. I run the new blog, Potter, Percy, And I. I am an avid reader that reads mainly YA or MG books. I am only able to get books from my library, so I might not be able to participate in every discussion...

message 609: by Kaion (last edited Feb 24, 2010 09:47AM) (new)

Kaion (kaionvin) Hello. I'm Kaion. I *love* discussing what I'm reading with people, though it's much harder to find people to talk about books with than about, say TV shows.

So I hope to talk to some of you interesting people and be introduced to some awesome books, 'cause who has time for the okay ones? (My book-dar is broken!)

Must say there weren't so many fantasy series the last time I really paid attention to young adult fiction (guess it's the Harry Potter effect).

message 610: by Cortney (new)

Cortney | 37 comments Hello all! My name is Cortney. I live in missouri with my amazing husband and rambunctious 2 year old. I was never a big reader growing up but about two years ago I got ahold of "The Constant Princess" by Philippa Gregory and my flare for reading has taken off!

First it was Historical novels but it has progressed from there. I love YA fiction because- as I read on someone else's post- it focuses on a story line while adult novels focus more on the relationship.

I just ran across poison study and I am excited to find it is the book for the month!here we go.

message 611: by Lakisha (last edited Feb 24, 2010 04:35PM) (new)

Lakisha | 2 comments Hi, my name is Lakisha Spletzer and I recently published my first book, "Jewels."

I've been reading more YA books in the past two years than any other genre that I normally read (Romance is now a close second).

However, I have a YA book, "Werelove: Dusk Conspiracy," that I have entered into the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Contest.

Here's a blurb for story:

Seventeen-year-old Laylah Le Croix has a rich father, mansion, and servants. Yet she is lonely and neglected. Her father would rather work than speak to her. At the academy she is bullied and mistreated.

When Weres attempt to kidnap Laylah, she is saved by the mysterious Donil Silentshadow. Donil rouses feelings in Laylah that make her question her life and her father's animosity toward her handsome rescuer. Confused by these emotions, she seeks answers from those closest to her and is rebuffed.

She must make a choice. Obey her father's edicts or follow her heart to learn the truth about her past.

You can check out what I'm doing at my website: http://www.kishazworld.com

Until then, happy reading everyone!

message 612: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I just found this board yesterday, so thought I would introduce myself. I'm Melodie and I'm a bookaholic! I've been married for 35 years to a great guy who puts up with me & all my quirks. We dont' have any kids, but have spoiled several dogs over the years. Right now we have 2. Louie is a short-haired Chow, and Spike is a mutt. They are our "kids". I work as a payroll administrator for an engineering company which keeps me busy. I read lots of UF and find that some of the best these days is found in YA. Also love mysteries, cookbooks and pop-culture biographies. I watch more TV than ever these days and favorites are Vampire Diaries & True Blood! Hope to pick up some good suggestions here!

message 613: by Ronica (new)

Ronica Stromberg | 5 comments My name is Ronica Stromberg and I'm the author of two inspirational books for tweens and teens, "A Shadow in the Dark" and "Living It Up to Live It Down." Both of these are published by Royal Fireworks Press, a small press that targets gifted and talented kids and homeschoolers. I have more information about my books and my life as a writer at my Web site, www.ronicastromberg.wordpress.com.

I read a lot of YA and children's books, although right now, I'm reading a lot of romances because I picked up 80+ at a romance writers' conference I went to last summer. I also really enjoy mysteries.

message 614: by Lexi (new)

I didn't like reading until about 6th grade when i started reading the Warriors series by Erin Hunter and since then I have gone on to reading a wide variety of things.

Hello everyone... for the authors out there... I have a section for promoting your books called the goodreads author section. Please mention your books there instead of here! It is a big help and prevents spamming!

message 617: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) hi Im leonor im portuguese and (as obvious) I love to read.I really like YA and Id really like to get some book reccommendations

message 618: by Liz H (new)

Liz H {Redd's Reads} (lizefly) Hi, I'm Liz and i really like to read YA especially fantasy. I'm new to goodreads but thought this group sounded fun. Also I'm studying to become a librarian and am interested in what other people have to say about these books.

message 619: by Kristi (new)

Kristi Adams (kristi-adams) I'm Kristi from a small town in Missouri. I'm just trying to dispell the myth of the cranky librarian one teen reader at a time. I love it when a kid comes back into my library for more books because he got hooked on whatever I had previously given him. I also love those kids that I can't keep up with; the ones who devour books and then pass on their wisdom to me. Though I read a lot, I can't keep up with all the new releases and all the different genres. I'm hoping you all can help me out by sharing YOUR wisdom!

message 620: by Megan (new)

Megan Mweemba (meganlovesbooks) Hey hey everybody. I'm Megan. I absolutely am in LOVE with books! I'm 14 and my favorite books are The Chaos Walking trilogy, the Hunger Games trilogy, The Host, and Ender's Game. I think this looks like a really cool group! Oh and I'm also a writer.

message 621: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone!
I'm Emma and I'm 13 turning 14. I love to read and to write stories. I'm a big Parnormal YA fan, I also like some Middle Grade books. And I'm currently in love with the Percy Jackson series! I'm home-schooled, so I have a lot of free time to read.

My mom wrote a YA book, that is very good! She's trying to get an agent to get it puplished. She also wrote a Middle Grade book that she's trying to get puplished too. So if anyone knows an agent that agents YA or middle grade, please contact me to pass it on to her! Thanks!

I have wrote plenty of stories in the past and am working on a few others now.

I look forward to reading more books and discussing them!!!

message 624: by Michelle♥ (new)

Michelle♥ Hi everyone! My name is Michelle and I'm YA addict. Hehe. I have loved this genre ever since I started reading books when I was only 6 years old. For some reason whenever I branch out to adult books, I am always wondering what I'm missing by putting time into another genre.

I have many TBR books and literally a mountain (no longer a pile) of those books at my apartment. I am technically a young adult (23 years old) but I do have to say, there are times when I'm embarrassed when I check books out from the library because they ALWAYS have those TEEN stickers all over the book. And then when someone sees those obnoxious stickers and ask "aren't you a little old to be reading teen books?" I tend to reply with "aren't you a little too immature to be judging someone by what they read?"

Anyway, I love this genre, and I am on a vampire kick right now. I just picked up the Vampire Academy series and have fallen in love with them. I am also going to start Hunger Games and Catching Fire immediately afterwards, and then FIRE by Kristin Cashore is being read right now. I loved Graceling and this is going just ok for me.

I look forward to posting more and getting to know all of you! Have a great weekend! :)

message 625: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) incredible, almost everyone who read graceling first and then fire, says that was disappointed with fire

message 626: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) i think i liked fire a lot more then graceling

message 627: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) I thought graceling was beter

message 628: by Jaime (new)

Jaime (jmgilligan) | 2 comments Hi everyone,

My name is Jaime. I'm new to Good Reads and this is the first group I've joined. I just downloaded the Poison Study for my ereader, so it looks like I'm off to a good start.

I'm a teacher at a private girls' high school. I love discussing YA with my students (although I thought they were going to shun me when I told them I wasn't totally crazy about Twilight!) I'm really looking forward to reading with you all!

Jamie (thefantasyprincess) Hi. My name is Jamie. I am in my early 30's and love YA. Reading is my passion. Anything murder mystery or fantasy/romance I enjoy.

message 635: by Nat (new)

Nat (natk1) I'm Natalie and I live in Long Island, NY. I am a young adult librarian, so I knew this would be the perfect group for me. I also do some children's work, so I read for that grade level too. In addition, I tend to read romance novels and fantasy novels. Every once in awhile, I will pick up a fiction book that is getting big buzz, but I find that young adult literature usually far exceeds it.

message 636: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Hi, im Tasha, i live in Canada, Alberta. I love reading fiction, fantasy or romance YA novels. Some of my favourite series are The hunger games, The immorals, the mortal instruments, and other books like the host.

Lady Salford (salford) Hiya! I'm 26 and from a little island in the Arabian Gulf. You can never find me without a book somewhere near my person. I am partial to mysteries, fantasy and historcial fiction. However, I love YA fiction because I think it is one of the best genres with interesting plots and great imagination. Thanks to Althea for directing me here after I've just finished reading Poison Study. I needed a place to discuss the plot and find myself a part of a lovely community.

message 642: by Tara (new)

Tara Hi, my name is Tara. I am a special education teacher and a mother of two kids both under 5. I just discovered reading YA books again about a year ago. I saw Poison Study was your group selection and so I decided to check out your group. It looks like you are an active group with a fun way of selecting books. Can't wait to check out the group more.

message 646: by Bess (new)

Bess (Neli) | 29 comments Hi, My name is Bess, I was nosying about the groups and liked the sound of this one, I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. I buy books compulsively and count myself lucky that my sister is a librarian and is a generous reading wish list enabler. My reading tastes range from Fantasy, YA fiction, contemporary fiction to Classics and all else in between. Looking forward to finding out more about this group!

message 647: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) Hi, I'm Jenny and I love YA lit. I got back into the YA books when I took a course on YA lit at my university a few semesters back and realized how many YA books are out there now that are not just entertaining but also contain quality themes and subtext, and how much the selection for YA is growing every day because it's been gaining so much popularity lately due to books like Harry Potter, etc. As an avid reader, to ignore such a selection just because the characters aren't adults would be neglect on my part, even though 12 year olds want to ask me why I read books about kids as though these books are undeserving of attention from "grown ups"! I look forward to discussions with this group; the book selections look like they've been really good ones.
