NBRC Travel Agent | 368 comments Your itinerary is here .

When you have a team name, just let me know and I'll update this thread name :)

First stop - Tromso, in Norway

message 3: by NBRC Travel Agent (last edited Aug 12, 2019 03:23AM) (new)

NBRC Travel Agent | 368 comments So just to get you started...

Your first stop is Tromso, Norway.

You can choose as a team to:

TASK
- Read books set in Norway, or by Norwegian authors or
- Do a spell-it-out of "Tromso" or "Norway".

OR
You can elect to do the detour, which for this stop, means that four of you need to "Read a book with a photographed cover".

===========

This is mostly self-directed, so whatever you guys as a team think fits the tasks will be fine.

However, if you do have questions or are unsure about something, please do not hesitate to contact the Travel Agent.

Ambi | 615 comments Checking in!

Hey guys. I’m Ambi from Texas, United States. This summer I have been so addicted to GR ( I think I browsed more books than I read) :D Now that school’s starting I need to hold myself back. But I’m so excited to be here!

message 6: by Navi (new)

Navi (nvsahota) | 730 comments Yay I’m so excited! My name is Navi and I live in British Columbia, Canada. I’ve been an active Goodreads user since 2009 so I completely understand your addiction., Ambi!😄

Lau Maia | 0 comments Hi! I'm lau and I'm from Portugal. I'm coming back slowly from a hard pregnancy and my first born, 16 months later and I'm now feeling like myself again.

So task 1, spell it out or detour?

message 8: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 615 comments I was thinking spell it out but that would mean only six of us can do it, since there are only six letters in either words. I’m fine with any actually! 🙂

message 9: by Cinthia (new)

Cinthia (cinthiah) | 271 comments I'm here. I'm Cinthia and I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I vote for the spell it out, but each of those words are only 6 letters. Would that mean two of us wouldn't read? I'll have to go back and read all of the instructions later.

I’m glad you’re feeling much better. I can’t imagine what it’s like since I haven’t gone through it, yet. But i think it’s important to look after yourself as much as you take care of your baby. I know it’s easier said than done but You’re gonna be an amazing mom! :D

It was hard because he was a premmie and I had high blood pressure so I was on bed rest... Lot's of stuff but luckily we're alright now. He just started walking and he's a peril but it's an awesome phase as well.

Can we use books from lava here? Or the books should be exclusively for this?

Stormie ~ Book Dragon ~ (stormiebookdragon) | 273 comments Hello, I am Stormie! I am back after being out for a couple of years. I am currently finishing up my Associate's degree and will be transferring to a four-year university for the Bachelors and Masters. I have been living in California for the past 19 years having moved from Virginia, where I was born. Last time I was here I was on team "We are 24", but not sure what happened to that group. I am okay with either the spell-it-out or reading a Norweigan book. We could also spell out Tromso, but that leaves us one short.

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 175 comments Hello, I'm Sarah from Ohio. I'm excited to be in another group reading challenge--they are so motivating! I'm good with a spell-out or reading for the location. One of my goals recently has been to read books from more diverse locations, which should fit this challenge perfectly :)

Here's a few ideas:

Our Literary Adventures popped into me head! :D

Yeah all challenges are individual so you can use the same books for every challenge if it fits the task.

I would like to do the first option but I know that's harder

message 23: by Navi (new)

Navi (nvsahota) | 730 comments I like Our Literary Adventures as well!

message 24: by Cinthia (new)

Cinthia (cinthiah) | 271 comments Lau, as long as the book fits the tasks you can always use it for different challenges. So far I haven't run across one that said you couldn't. :)

I really hope we do the spell it out because I don't have any Norwegian books at the moment. I was just wondering if in that case two of the people don't count their books?
I haven't checked in the Q & A yet, but I'm assuming we can start books but not finish before each round, correct? In that case we'd use the 2 people that didn't get theirs books in for the next round. It could be a faster way to go about this as well. :)

I’m okay if we start with a spell it out (start with an easy task before tackling the more challenging ones!). How should we choose the 1st round readers - volunteer or pick randomly? :)

message 26: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 615 comments Two team members haven’t checked in, yet. Maybe they can join us next round.

Ambi | 615 comments Which word do you guys wanna spell out? Tromso or Norway?

Also shall I PM our team name to the travel agent, if you guys have decided yet?

message 28: by Navi (new)

Navi (nvsahota) | 730 comments I vote for Tromso only because I’ve never heard of it lol!

Sure! I like the name ☺️

message 29: by Lau (new)

Lau Maia | 0 comments Should someone be team captain to keep us in check? I'm not volunteering ehehe
Tromso is ok for me 😀

Stormie ~ Book Dragon ~ (stormiebookdragon) | 273 comments I am okay with Tromso and as far as the name, I like The Well-Read Wanderers.

message 31: by Cinthia (new)

Cinthia (cinthiah) | 271 comments I'm finishing a book today today that starts with M, and another one either tonight or tomorrow that's starts with T, so I could take one of those two (or both! 😁).

message 32: by Lau (new)

I have to check mine later

Really? Not just finished after the thread started? In that case then only 1 of mine counts (the T one).

message 34: by Ambi (last edited Aug 13, 2019 10:48AM) (new)

Ambi | 615 comments Well then we could do Tromso.

Keeping our task assignments in check. ;D

T - Cinthia

O - Navi
M
S - Ambi

Ambi | 615 comments Quick questions. Does Spell it out have to be the first letter of the first word?

message 36: by Lau (new)

Lau Maia | 0 comments ~~Ambi~~ wrote: "Quick questions. Does Spell it out have to be the first letter of the first word?"

SPELL-IT-OUT RULES
Spell out the word(s) using the first letter in the book's title, the first letter in the author's first or last name, or the first letter of a character's first, last, or nick-name, or the first letter of the series name.
As always, if the first letter of a title starts with an indefinite or definite article ('A', 'An', 'The', etc.), you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word.
If the first letter of a title is a numerical digit, then you use the first letter of that digit for your spell out (i.e. 1984 is N; 2046 is T; 1Q84 is O)
If you are listening to an audiobook, the first letter in the narrator's first or last name also can be used.
We're also allowing for Translators names, as long as the edition you are reading is a translation version.

Nope, it says so on rules

message 37: by Navi (new)

Navi (nvsahota) | 730 comments ~~Ambi~~ wrote: "Quick questions. Does Spell it out have to be the first letter of the first word?"

I got this from the Rules section:

❶ Spell-It-Out: These challenges spell out a word. Then for each letter read books with titles, series names, authors (first or last names) that begin with letters that correspond to the word you choose. Some challenges allow you to use characters (first or last names), too. You may ignore the indefinite and definite articles (a, an, the, etc.)

message 44: by Sarah (last edited Aug 13, 2019 11:52AM) (new)

Sarah | 175 comments I'll take R if it's available!

Also, from what I can tell from reading other threads, if the word is too short for all of us to have a letter, the other team members can read any book. We get bonus points if everyone reads a book at each stop, but not everyone actually has to as long as the task is completed. From the rules:

TASKS
◈ Completing a task will earn the team 10 points AND
◈ If at least 6 members of the team read a book that contributes to the tasks, that is an additional 15 points AND
◈ If ALL team members read a book for the time you are at the stop, that is an additional 10 points

Ooh do you guys wanna get competitive and everyone read a book at this stop?

message 48: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 615 comments I sort of changed the outline of the spreadsheet. Personally, I feel too many tabs make a mess. Feel free to change things around. :D

Stormie ~ Book Dragon ~ (stormiebookdragon) | 273 comments Sorry for checking in late. The Fall semester just started at my college. Are there any letters left? I am checking in from my phone and don't have all the features of the computer.
