Short picture book, color illustrations, human child (not a monster or animal) can't wait until they are older. A few different birthdays go by as they age, each time they can't wait until they are older. When they reach their 20s, suddenly they wish they were 8 again. Likely mid to late 90s or very early 2000s. Not sure if the child was a boy or girl.

Hi Kris, thank you! No it's not "Diego Wants to Be". The child only want to grow up, not change into different things.

Sadly, I have very little to go on, as I'm trying to find this book for someone else. Thanks for your help!
