Shoshanapnw - regarding your post, and specifically - I like that a book needs no batteries or peripherals. I like that the only player a book needs is my eyes-
I say AMEN to that! Whenever the printer, computer, high tech TV won't work because of gosh knows what, I always say, "My books always work!"

I take a book or two with me everywhere I go...its always been a habit of minie...
I normally bring one or two from home,light readings.. then buy new books enroute ;)*cheaper than imported book store in my place*
Here in the U.S.A. it will be the last "BIG" weekend of the summer this weekend. I am staying at a friends for the weekend so I am packing my bookbag. I can't decide if I should take "A Great and Terrible Beauty" by Libba Bray or "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak with me. I have in the bag already, "Parenting with Love & Logic" by Foster Cline and "Blind Eye" by Jan Coffey. What do you think?
Always. Always. Always. I don't venture past my front door without a book. I just never know when I'm going to have a few minutes to read.I tend to grossly over pack books when I travel. We're camping Fri-Mon over Labor Day weekend. I'm packing 3 generously sized books and 4 audio books. Better too many than not enough.

a book is a travelling essentialcant leave home without one. my mates make fun of me cos ive always got a book in my jacket pocket when im out busting some moves. sorta explains y i dont pick up really. sigh
i try to take one everywhere i go. but i pick the light or thin one, not the pillow-sized :)
I take one every where I go...but I've realized that when I get to the bookstore, it's best that I remove it from my purse and leave it in the car. :)
I drive my wife crazy, but I even take a book to the grocery store with me (if nothing more than so I have a place to post-it in my shopping list). Sort of like I've heard other's say, you never know when you'll be stranded on the edge of the road with nothing to do. =-)
I have always traveled with books, and like many of you, I take 2-3 even for weekend get-a-ways b/c you never know what you'll be in the mood to read, plus I would hate to ever be caught with free time and no book to read! I also love to listen to audiobooks in the car on roadtrips (I get too car sick to read). My daughter shares this love for audiobooks with me but my husband does not, so I don't get to listen to them as much as I'd like unless we gang up on him. Also like many of you, I purposely bought a big purse so I can always have a book with me everywhere I go. There are a lot more opportunities to read than you would think when you always have a book with you. This reading obsession drives my husband a little crazy though, he just doesn't get it at all...
I'm realy afraid to fly so one of my best friends always gives me a "plane goodie bag" which always contains at least one book. I usually take at least 2 or 3, it's the only thing that calms me down :)
Yes I will carry at least one book with me when traveling. It helps when the ride is long!
Travel without a book? No way! And of course, a trip to at least one bookstore is a must on every vacation.

I am getting an ipod just for books but I'm not sure where to get the books to put on there...any suggestions??
I usually will bring a book for the travel itself (especially when i'm flying off somewhere) & at then drop by at a bookstore, either at the airport or my destination & then get another book for the trip back.. any excuse to get a new book is a good one.. hehe..
Another reason I always like to have a book with me is you never know you might see that you don't want to see - you can always bury your face in a book and pretend you don't see them.
I always have a book with me as well as my Sony e-reader...I like having options when I finish a books since I never know what I will feel like reading next...and with the travel weight restrictions, I only take my e-reader since it is a given that I will end up with at least one book from wherever it is I went...

My local county library uses a program that allows you to download the books to your ipod. So you might want to check with your library.
iTunes is really expensive I think for audiobooks. Try googling the subject and see if you can find any useful sites.

I (almost) always carry a book with me. Every once in a while, I forget during the mad rush to get my crew out the door. I travel a good bit for business, and I always bring several books with me, even though I may only finish one or two. Like others have said, I like having options.
Sometimes I have to travel to one of our plant locations, which I could fly to, but it's usually faster to just drive the 4-5 hours. I listen to audiobooks on those trips, and pack 3 or 4 to read in the evenings.
It doesn't matter where I'm going; if I know that I am not going to come home that night, that I will have any amount of free time that might otherwise be spent in boredom, or if I think it even plausible that I might have a chance to read, I bring a book. It doesn't matter if I'm traveling up the street; I always have a book on me.
Absolutely. Anytime I think I am going to be waiting I carry a book, when I am traveling I carry several books, maybe a magazine, plus sudoku puzzles and logic puzzles. I like to have a variety of things to do. My problem with reading in a busy airport or on the plane is I am inherently a people person and I am constantly looking up watching the people. If I see someone with a book I am trying to see what they are reading (I don't interupt them as I know they aren't reading because they are bored); I just like to people watch. So on a flight I usually work sudoku as I can look up and back down and pick right back up. Can't do logic puzzles with a lot going on around me, I have to concentrate on those--sometimes read a clue out loud--not good on a plane or in a crowded place--people would think I was strange. Mostly I carry the books so that I can read before I go to sleep. This helps me to wind down after a day of visiting with my kids or whatever I have traveled to do. I will be leaving for Phoenix on Monday for a month visiting with my kids (and grandkids, and great grandson) plus house hunting while I am there. I will definitely go through several books. I will take a few with me but my one daughter is an avid reader and I don't have to worry about running out of books to read. My other daughter is a massage therapist and I like to read her industry magazines while I visit also. If all else fails a trip to the library will get me a "fix". I also like to visit bookstores where ever I go. I have brought back a whole suitcase full of books before.

My thoughts are with you Petra. I know the guilty feeling because I work for an Independant Bookseller, but I go into other shops to get ideas and if they are Indie's also I feel that I am supporting a good thing.
