Elmer and Vigdis *spoiler alert*

I really liked The Redbreast but this book was overly complicated and contrived. I have two questions: in chapter 19, Elmer (the guy who owned the news shop) goes to the bank and steps into a robbery. I don't think we ever hear about him again but the police still go to his shop? Secondly, did Vigdis have something to do with her husband's death? I don't recall her having anything to do with Raskol's crew.
