James Press | 3 comments Sorry for the vague description, my mom has been trying to remember the author and or title of this book forever. So she reached out to me. What she remembered from the book plot is the main character was crashing at a cabin at on the California cost maybe Moneray Bay, waiting for some friends. He often visited a "bookstore" sort of a library. Where people could leave books they wrote. Eventually, he worked for them. He drove a van full of the books that have been on the shelf for a period of time and dropped them in a cave in OR which he didn't feel good about. She thinks it was from the 70's. Does anyone have any clue what as what she could be talking about?

James, I added plot details to the topic header/title. Feel free to update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header - using the full desktop website (not the mobile website or app).

What's the genre or tone - somber/sad, meditative, funny, angsty, any romance, etc.?

Can you tell us more about the guy - e.g., his age, marital status, previous jobs, skills/interests, rich/poor, family/friends? Who are his favorite authors or books?

James Press | 3 comments Thank you. My mom said it was general fiction, it was in the classic section and charged her more for it because the author's books were rare. She said the book was meditative and a little bit funny. She read it in 1980 and thinks it was written in the 70s. She said he went to the cabin to do thining or soul searching or to get away from drugs, says there may have been drug use in the book she thinks it was pot. It was like a time out to mull things over, a personal time out. He started going to the "bookstore" before he started working there. All the books in the store/library were self-published. Said they were some were in binders and handwritten. The books that were there for to long were taken in a van or box truck to a cave in OR. There was one lady that used to come to get her books from the store because she knew they were taken somewhere. She thinks the owner of the library/bookstore was lying to people about where the books were taken. She believes the protagonist felt guilty for taking them to the cave.

Is that "a cave in Oregon"?

Is this fiction or non-fiction?

James Press | 3 comments She is pretty sure it is fiction. Said it's possible it's non-fiction but pretty sure it's not. She said the self published libaray part of the book may be sub plot but she remembers it the most because self publishing was not a big thing at the time.

Yes a cave in Oregon. Thank you so much for your help. She says she has been trying to remember the name or author for almost 30 years. She used to love his books.
