I've never read it so we both have targets on our backs XD. When did you first read it?

Agree but for me, the best book and movie was Eclipse (if I had to choose). There was just a lot more going on in that book. The others were just too much staring and bad writing.

@Tiara - if we’d met like five years ago, I’d be totally offended that you think HP to be overhyped but I get where you’re coming from. Personally, it’s such a childhood staple for me that a part of me will always hold on to it. With that said, the franchise has been milked to death tbh.
I can’t think of a particular book but John Green (and now I can say his work, by extension) is especially overhyped. So is Colleen Hoover!
They’re both good writers and, imo, really know how to tell a story but after having read a lot of their work, I can safely say that at their respective foundations, it’s all the same. They dress up each novel differently (especially JG) but the characters have a tendency to meld into one after you’ve read a bunch of their stuff. Respective to each author ofc, not in comparison.

I first read it as a senior in high school so I think that has a lot to do with my opinion. I wasn't allowed to really grow up with it like most people so I enjoyed it a lot but it really wasn't what everyone hypes it up to be.

LITERALLY MILKED TO DEATH. I've had enough yall.

I think the fact that you read it later on then most people i.e. not for the age-range could be a reason why you didn't enjoy it. I know quite a few people like that so I don't think (hopefully!) no-one will hold it against you! 😂😂

I thought The Fault In Our Stars was so overhyped. I was quite disappointed with the ending in what did Hazel actually learn from her short-lived romance with this happy-go-lucky Gus? What was the actual point? Never read Colleen Hoover books but I have a feeling they are like stereotypical romance novels and I HATE those, even though I love a good love story. Literally reminds me of The Selection Series by Kiera Cass. Again, never read them but I feel like (from what I have read) they are so stereotypical and predictable and there is so much hype around them for being these beautiful books with a beautiful story but you don't even have to read the book to know how it is going to end.

Fifty shades ( i read only the first book and even that was a drag.. i have no clue how she stretched it to 2 more books and im pretty sure the movies were made to just to give 2 actors a career break)
After ( i saw only the movie yesterday night) - again.. these are movies made just to promote 2 ppl who could do with a bit of acting coaching . if the goodread reviews of this book are anything to by, it’s even worse and im glad that i dint read them !

Ugh...I agree. Fifty Shades is a TERRIBLE book and even worse movie. I read one paragraph and was so mad at the time I had wasted over it. Let's be real, the only reason it did as well as it did was because of the BDSM aspect - it's taboo and scandalous! It makes me so mad though when those three books are the only books some people have read and they are like 'these are the best books ever'.
After was the definition of a Wattpad story and what made it worse was it was originally a ONE DIRECTION fan-fiction where the two lead characters were Zayn Malik and Harry Styles! The movie was just as bad - too much staring and blank expressions and no real conversation.
I love Wattpad stories and there are some really, really good ones but the fact that the stupid ones like The Kissing Booth and After are the ones that become successful is terrible!

In the former category, some of the ones I can think of off the top of my head are: Ember in the Ashes series, Fault in Our Stars, most post-Gone Girl thrillers and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Not out-and-out BAD books, just ones that had crazy hype that I don't understand.
In the latter (and I can rant for DAYS about some of these): The Goldfinch, Perks of Being A Wallflower, Fates & Furies, Caraval, A Little Life...probably more but that's all I can think of at 11pm!
They are the ones that the book bloggers and publishers talk about.
They are the ones that sell out in the book stores and the reviews are raving.
And then, when you hold it in your own hands and flick through the pages, you ask yourself, "What was all the hype about?"
TIME FOR YOU ALL TO 'FESS UP!
We all have a book we believe was 'overhyped', so which book do you think received more attention then it deserved?
For myself?
'The Girl on a Train' by Paula Hawkins. I love a good thriller just like the next person but this book just collapsed at the climax. When things should've got interesting, it backfired and the revelation was disappointing.
