message 103: by Sarah (last edited Sep 03, 2019 10:15PM) (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments it's all good. It's storming here and I'm not going to be able to finish my sci fi book (even though I really like it), so I'm looking for a novella to punch out.

If that gets done, do we have all of our tasks done by the deadline?

message 104: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments can someone add this for me for #5? I requested access. It's Montana Untamed by Ramona Flightner

thankssssss

message 105: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments oops nvm about #5. Kerri's is in there, all good!

I will be reading All Systems Red for #8. It'll be done in time, it's a novella. I'll post a confirmation when finished.

message 106: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Oh I started to put mine in there actually but haven’t actually finished it yet. At like 70% so you can go ahead and out yours in #5! Sorry about that! And yay for novellas!

message 107: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments So I finished my books for 1 and 7 and update the spreadsheet ;)

message 108: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments done with #8!

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments so we're done with round two? when can we start round three?

message 111: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments Sarah wrote: "so we're done with round two? when can we start round three?"

Probably next week, when they post the tasks. Meanwhile, we can do safe zone tasks. Let's start with Group 1. Any preferences on who wants which letter?

message 112: by Zoë (last edited Sep 04, 2019 12:49PM) (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments I’ve got Recursion started today( that I mentioned a couple days ago) that can work for C (author is Blake Crouch). It’s the BOM and also has been read by someone else. I'll do a selection post for that and look into any others that I can do too.

message 113: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Can we use author’s first names? If so, I can read The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow for A. If not, I could also read Th Infinite Noise for I.

message 114: by Zoë (last edited Sep 04, 2019 02:27PM) (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Selection Post x 2

Book: Recursion by Blake Crouch
Qualification: "C" for ACID. BOM book and author's last name begins with "C"

Book: Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1) by Danielle Paige
Qualification: "D" for ACID. BOM book and Title AND author's first name begin with "D"

message 115: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Kerri wrote: "Can we use author’s first names? If so, I can read The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow for A. If not, I could also read Th Infinite Noise for I."

I've never heard that first names don't work before! I think it's fine. So you can do "A" and "I", then?

If everyone else wants to start on Group 2? I bet we can finish at least Groups 1 & 2!

message 116: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Oh here we go:

"SPELL-IT-OUT RULES
Spell out the word(s) using the first letter in the book's title, the first letter in the author's first or last name, or the first letter of a character's first, last, or nick-name, or the first letter of the series name.
As always, if the first letter of a title starts with an indefinite or definite article ('A', 'An', 'The', etc.), you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word.
If the first letter of a title is a numerical digit, then you use the first letter of that digit for your spell out (i.e. 1984 is N; 2046 is T; 1Q84 is O)
If you are listening to an audiobook, the first letter in the narrator's first or last name also can be used.
We're also allowing for Translators names, as long as the edition you are reading is a translation version."

So you're good Kerri.

message 117: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I can definitely do A, then! I probably won't be able to do both by the end of the week, so could someone else pick up I?

message 118: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments I can do "I" also if everyone else wants to start on Group 2.

The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells by Andrew Sean Greer

Qualification: Title starts with "I"

message 119: by Zoë (last edited Sep 04, 2019 06:16PM) (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Ooo Kerri The Ten Thousand Doors of January looks good!

message 120: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments let me look at group two right now.

Y'ALL: QUESTION. If I read a book since round two started but didn't finish it for the challenge can I use it for the safe zone challenges?

message 121: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments yall what the hell with these safezone zone two books lmao

message 122: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments All the safezone books have to be started AFTER everyone has finished the initial cluster of books.

message 123: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Completion Post
Book: Recursion by Blake Crouch
Qualification: “C” authors last name begins with C
Rating: 5 stars
Review: I’m not sure what I can say about this book without giving anything away. It’s a really beautiful concept that is heartbreaking but also very thought provoking. Imagine that you could go back and redo moments in your life? Would you do it? Would you do it knowing that it could change very thing and everyone? Those are the ideas that emerge while reading this. Worth the read.

message 124: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Zoë wrote: "Ooo Kerri The Ten Thousand Doors of January looks good!"

So far, it's pretty amazing! I'm about halfway through and should be done with it by tomorrow :)

message 125: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Completion Post:
Book: Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1) by Danielle Paige
Qualification: Title begins with D
Rating: 2 stars
Review: I mean, I didn’t hate it. But it wasn’t good either. It has weird random violence that doesn’t feel like it fits with the rest of the story. It feels like a pretty stereotypical YA adventure fantasy novel. Girl goes on adventure. Becomes a hero. There are cute boys. But in this one, the antagonist is Dorothy who has gone back to Oz and become completely insane. All of the characters are there. The flying monkeys, the lion, the tinman, the scarecrow, the wizard. Witches. I wanted this to be so much better than it was. Oh well.

message 126: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments I think I finally understand group 3! Haha. That’s probably easier to do. We can choose any word used in any of the ten topics for the round. So we can spell out “set” or “by”. I’ll finish I for ACID by Saturday and could fit in one more book before Monday (the deadline for safezone groups to be finished). Does anyone want to spell something out? Anything that you can start now and finish by Sunday night? (Or Monday by 7am Eastern US time technically)

message 127: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments Anyone up for one more book before the end of round 2? We could do the spell it out - safezone 3.

message 128: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments And tasks for round 3 have been posted.

message 129: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I'll probably be done with Ten Thousand Doors today, but I probably won't be able to finish anything else before round 3. My body is trying to get sick and I'm taking it easy to fight it off, lol.

message 130: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Can someone update the spreadsheet for me? I finished my book for I but haven’t had internet all day! Thank you!!

Got it added, Zoe, and just finished my book, so added that, too! I'll have to do my completion post tomorrow... I'm still feeling bleh and need to get to bed.

message 132: by Kerri (new)

message 133: by Zoë (last edited Sep 08, 2019 12:09AM) (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Thank you!!
I can definitely do #3 in a series since I was going to anyway, and I think I have one for ARSENIC spell it out, and the flower one too. I’ll confirm tomorrow with selection posts and a completion post for my last one too! Good job team!

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Completion Post

Book: The Ten Thousand Doors of January
Qualification: Author's name begins with A (Alix E. Harrow)
Rating: 4 stars
Review: This book was a beautiful, fun ride! I really enjoyed the writing style of this author; it was lovely but not overly flowery. And I adored the characters, especially January, our heroine. She had moments where I was questioning her intelligence, but she was real and brave and so much fun to follow on her journey. This is a great book to escape into and just enjoy. Definitely recommend!

message 135: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments I think I can do the #10 - tagged MPG Crime and #6 - set in Scandinavia. I will update once I pick books that would work for this tasks.

message 136: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I can do task #1 with Murder on the Orient Express and #4 with Nevernight since Jay Kristoff was born in Australia.

message 137: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Actually, I'm gonna go with Crazy Rich Asians for #4 since it's shorter and will probably be quicker to get through, lol. And Kevin Kwan is from Singapore!

message 138: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments I'll do #8 for sure

message 139: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (psitssarahh) | 46 comments I'll do #2, #8 and I'll keep looking into what I can do for possibly #5

#10 - tagged MPG Crime
The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware
Qualification: Tagged MPG Crime ... or at least I hope it is

#6 - set in Scandinavia

I don't think that book is gonna work because Crime isn't one of the main page genres. Is there something on the Freign Lands list that you could read? Cause I could use Murder on the Orient Express for the MPG Crime prompt, instead.

message 144: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Completion Post:
Book: The Fate of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #3) by Erika Johansen
Qualification: Third in a series
Rating: 5 stars
Review: this is one of my favorite series of all time and it holds up to rereads!

message 145: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments Hmmm, so what exactly is the MPG? And how are we suppose to find a book that would fit the task since crime isn't one of the main page genres?

I will take a look at that list.

message 146: by Zoë (new)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 179 comments Zuza - I know, so annoying, right? You’ll have to search through crime lists and see which ones have crime listed. Some definitely do but it’s not as easy as thriller or mystery for sure. If you can’t find anything, let me know, I’m happy to help you look!

message 147: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments Thanks for the offer Zoë. The books I keep picking don't seem to be crime books. Who would have thought that finding a crime book would be so complicated 😂? Anyways for now I am starting the book for task #6 📖 and then I will pick a book from the Freign Lands list 🆗. Kerri, I will leave this task #10 - tagged MPG Crime up to you. Agreed?

message 148: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Agreed! Murder on the Orient Express will work for #10 and I've already started it, so we should be good :)

message 149: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments From the list I will be reading Došel jsem daleko by Ishmael Beah

We can read in different languages, right?

Yeah, as long as it meets the other criteria, you can read in whatever language.
