Oh haha no worries! And next time I’ll actually be able to participate from the beginning and can take on more books! I read a stupid amount. Haha
it's all good. It's storming here and I'm not going to be able to finish my sci fi book (even though I really like it), so I'm looking for a novella to punch out.If that gets done, do we have all of our tasks done by the deadline?
can someone add this for me for #5? I requested access. It's Montana Untamed by Ramona Flightnerthankssssss
oops nvm about #5. Kerri's is in there, all good! I will be reading All Systems Red for #8. It'll be done in time, it's a novella. I'll post a confirmation when finished.
Oh I started to put mine in there actually but haven’t actually finished it yet. At like 70% so you can go ahead and out yours in #5! Sorry about that! And yay for novellas!
Sarah wrote: "so we're done with round two? when can we start round three?"Probably next week, when they post the tasks. Meanwhile, we can do safe zone tasks. Let's start with Group 1. Any preferences on who wants which letter?
I’ve got Recursion started today( that I mentioned a couple days ago) that can work for C (author is Blake Crouch). It’s the BOM and also has been read by someone else. I'll do a selection post for that and look into any others that I can do too.
Can we use author’s first names? If so, I can read The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow for A. If not, I could also read Th Infinite Noise for I.
Selection Post x 2Book:
Qualification: "C" for ACID. BOM book and author's last name begins with "C"
Book:
Qualification: "D" for ACID. BOM book and Title AND author's first name begin with "D"
Kerri wrote: "Can we use author’s first names? If so, I can read The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow for A. If not, I could also read Th Infinite Noise for I."I've never heard that first names don't work before! I think it's fine. So you can do "A" and "I", then?
If everyone else wants to start on Group 2? I bet we can finish at least Groups 1 & 2!
Oh here we go:"SPELL-IT-OUT RULES
Spell out the word(s) using the first letter in the book's title, the first letter in the author's first or last name, or the first letter of a character's first, last, or nick-name, or the first letter of the series name.
As always, if the first letter of a title starts with an indefinite or definite article ('A', 'An', 'The', etc.), you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word.
If the first letter of a title is a numerical digit, then you use the first letter of that digit for your spell out (i.e. 1984 is N; 2046 is T; 1Q84 is O)
If you are listening to an audiobook, the first letter in the narrator's first or last name also can be used.
We're also allowing for Translators names, as long as the edition you are reading is a translation version."
So you're good Kerri.
I can definitely do A, then! I probably won't be able to do both by the end of the week, so could someone else pick up I?
let me look at group two right now. Y'ALL: QUESTION. If I read a book since round two started but didn't finish it for the challenge can I use it for the safe zone challenges?
Completion PostBook:
Qualification: “C” authors last name begins with C

Review: I’m not sure what I can say about this book without giving anything away. It’s a really beautiful concept that is heartbreaking but also very thought provoking. Imagine that you could go back and redo moments in your life? Would you do it? Would you do it knowing that it could change very thing and everyone? Those are the ideas that emerge while reading this. Worth the read.
Zoë wrote: "Ooo Kerri The Ten Thousand Doors of January looks good!"So far, it's pretty amazing! I'm about halfway through and should be done with it by tomorrow :)

Review: I mean, I didn’t hate it. But it wasn’t good either. It has weird random violence that doesn’t feel like it fits with the rest of the story. It feels like a pretty stereotypical YA adventure fantasy novel. Girl goes on adventure. Becomes a hero. There are cute boys. But in this one, the antagonist is Dorothy who has gone back to Oz and become completely insane. All of the characters are there. The flying monkeys, the lion, the tinman, the scarecrow, the wizard. Witches. I wanted this to be so much better than it was. Oh well.
I think I finally understand group 3! Haha. That’s probably easier to do. We can choose any word used in any of the ten topics for the round. So we can spell out “set” or “by”. I’ll finish I for ACID by Saturday and could fit in one more book before Monday (the deadline for safezone groups to be finished). Does anyone want to spell something out? Anything that you can start now and finish by Sunday night? (Or Monday by 7am Eastern US time technically)
I'll probably be done with Ten Thousand Doors today, but I probably won't be able to finish anything else before round 3. My body is trying to get sick and I'm taking it easy to fight it off, lol.
Can someone update the spreadsheet for me? I finished my book for I but haven’t had internet all day! Thank you!!
Zoë wrote: "Can someone update the spreadsheet for me? I finished my book for I but haven’t had internet all day! Thank you!!"Got it added, Zoe, and just finished my book, so added that, too! I'll have to do my completion post tomorrow... I'm still feeling bleh and need to get to bed.
I dd want to post our next round initial tasks so we can start figuring out who wants to read for what :)10 tagged MPG Crime
9 that has the letters A-R-S-E-N-I-C in the title ( in any order)
8 that was published in the 1980s
7 with a detective whose initials can be found in the word poison
6 set in Scandinavia
5 that is more than 500 pages
4 from an author who was NOT born in the USA, Canada or UK
3 that is #3 in a series
2 with one or more flowers on the cover
1 that is on the Foreign Lands list
Thank you!! I can definitely do #3 in a series since I was going to anyway, and I think I have one for ARSENIC spell it out, and the flower one too. I’ll confirm tomorrow with selection posts and a completion post for my last one too! Good job team!
Completion PostBook: The Ten Thousand Doors of January
Qualification: Author's name begins with A (Alix E. Harrow)
Rating: 4 stars
Review: This book was a beautiful, fun ride! I really enjoyed the writing style of this author; it was lovely but not overly flowery. And I adored the characters, especially January, our heroine. She had moments where I was questioning her intelligence, but she was real and brave and so much fun to follow on her journey. This is a great book to escape into and just enjoy. Definitely recommend!
I think I can do the #10 - tagged MPG Crime and #6 - set in Scandinavia. I will update once I pick books that would work for this tasks.
I can do task #1 with Murder on the Orient Express and #4 with Nevernight since Jay Kristoff was born in Australia.
Actually, I'm gonna go with Crazy Rich Asians for #4 since it's shorter and will probably be quicker to get through, lol. And Kevin Kwan is from Singapore!
Selection post:#2
The Lost Art of Mixing
Qualification: has flowers on cover
#3
The Fate of the Tearling
Qualification: third in a series
#9
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Qualification: contains the letters ARSENIC in the title out of order
Selection post:#10 - tagged MPG Crime
The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware
Qualification: Tagged MPG Crime ... or at least I hope it is
#6 - set in Scandinavia
Mlhy Ölandu by Johan Theorin
Qualification: Öland is the second largest island in Sweden after Gotland and Sweden, officially the Kingdom of Sweden, is one of the Nordic states on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe ...

I don't think that book is gonna work because Crime isn't one of the main page genres. Is there something on the Freign Lands list that you could read? Cause I could use Murder on the Orient Express for the MPG Crime prompt, instead.
Completion Post:Book:
Qualification: Third in a series
Rating: 5 stars
Review: this is one of my favorite series of all time and it holds up to rereads!
Hmmm, so what exactly is the MPG? And how are we suppose to find a book that would fit the task since crime isn't one of the main page genres? I will take a look at that list.
Zuza - I know, so annoying, right? You’ll have to search through crime lists and see which ones have crime listed. Some definitely do but it’s not as easy as thriller or mystery for sure. If you can’t find anything, let me know, I’m happy to help you look!
Thanks for the offer Zoë. The books I keep picking don't seem to be crime books. Who would have thought that finding a crime book would be so complicated 😂? Anyways for now I am starting the book for task #6 📖 and then I will pick a book from the Freign Lands list 🆗. Kerri, I will leave this task #10 - tagged MPG Crime up to you. Agreed?
Agreed! Murder on the Orient Express will work for #10 and I've already started it, so we should be good :)
From the list I will be reading Došel jsem daleko by Ishmael BeahWe can read in different languages, right?

Yeah, as long as it meets the other criteria, you can read in whatever language.
