message 652: by Giada (new)

Giada yes in the capital when aedion and chaol were drinking and asking who had farthest traveled. The commander from noll explained for the local people the volcanoes were sacred and the king took a legion into this vulcanoes and sacked the temple. and then built a tower. From the enigma I remember the second key is hidden in a vulcanoe

How did the King of Adarlan find out about Aedion's betrayal?

What is TAB?

message 655: by Ale (new)

Ale (bookishunicorn) Uhm, Aedion himself told the King that he was ploting with others againts him in the scene at the end of Heir of Fire before Chaol flees the castle and Dorian gets tje collar in his neck.
TAB means The Assassin's Blade (the collection of novellas c: )

Alexis (TigeroftheTowerGuard) | 356 comments Speaking of Dorian, I wonder what his mother will think about the.collar. Maybe it will open her eyes to what the king is doing and spur her into action against him. Would be neat to see her playing a larger role.

I've been thinking that, she seems blind to pretty much everything. Maybe she's under a spell or just playing a part. I hope she's gets a bigger role later too!

Pertty | 21 comments If the king has two word keys then what is he waiting for he could do damage right now but no so maybe he only has one or he want to wait for the third was or a time

message 661: by Giada (new)

Giada He has damaged the entire empire right now but to have all the control on wyrd door he must have all three keys.

message 662: by Serena (new)

Serena | 160 comments Queen Georgina is a pretty mysterious character, as is the King of Adarlan. Really hope their characters are expanded on in the upcoming books. Why is the king's name and appearance never mentioned? Is Queen Georgina really that ignorant and blind towards the king's evilness? Does she actually ever do anything?

message 663: by Sierra (new)

Sierra Saikaley Hey does anyone think Abraxos will die?

message 664: by [deleted user] (new)

I did once, but I refuse to think about it anymore.

message 665: by Serena (new)

Serena | 160 comments I don't think he will either. Whenever a character dies, it's a pretty significant event in the plot which moves the story along. Somehow I don't think Abraxos dying will really do anything, other than make Manon really angry and sad.

message 666: by Jess (new)

Jess Munnery (jmunners) | 46 comments Well, making Manon angry could be that turning point. We see she's suspicious already, maybe Abraxos dying will be the turning point for Manon where she'll go against the King. Or at least the leaders of the witch clans.

message 667: by Ale (new)

Ale (bookishunicorn) Sorry for being a little off the Abraxos topic, but I just have a theory that hit me like truck.

What if Aelin becomes the Queen of the Assassins by the end of Queen of Shadows? I know it sounds crazy but it's a possibility because:

1. Sarah has said many times that she came back to Adarlan to bury the two men that wrecked her life. One being Arobynn and one being the King. Why not kill him in Queen of Shadows then?
2. The title 'Queen of Shadows'. Shadows can be a metaphor for the Underworld (a.k.a Rifthold or the Assassin's world) so maybe it's a hint for what she might become by the end of the book.
3. She needs that help. She needs the assassin's to fully act against the King. The Assassin's apparently rule the major part of Rifthold and she can't act behind them.

The only theory-hole that I see is that they might not want to go with her. BUT, if she murders Arobynn after gathering a big amount of people (because she said by the end of HoF that she was coming back to rifthold to retrieve every single debt owed to Celaena Sardothien) and she tells the Assassin's that she is the Lost Queen and has thousands behind her back (because even if she doesn't have them by that point, when she reveals herself SHE WILL) they won't turn her down.

So yeah. That was it. Let me know what you guys think :D

message 668: by Jess (new)

Jess Munnery (jmunners) | 46 comments Think that's a very real possibility. Even if she doesn't kill Arobynn he'll support her I think, because now he knows she's really going to oppose the King. So he'll expect her to be grateful for his help. She might become the Queen of Assassins just from association and close working with him.
If or rather when she kills him there are going to be so many problems to deal with, but she'd have one hell of a lot more connections to add to her forming court.
I think she may become known as the Queen of Assassins before she even kills Arobynn, he'll raise her up and make her recognised, maybe then she'll kill him? A great number of possibilities, but yes I think it'll happen!

message 669: by priya (new)

priya (gpriyaa) It also makes sense title wise, all the past book titles had something to do with something in the book

Throne of glass- glass castle
Crown of midnight- elena's crown
Heir of fire- celaena w/ her fire magic
Queen of shadows- celaena being the queen of assassins (shadows)

message 670: by Ale (new)

Ale (bookishunicorn) Yes, Jess! I didn't think about her becoming recognized as the Queen of the Assassins while Arobynn being alive, but it sounds even more possible that way.
and yes, Priya, it'll totally make sense title-wise. I can't wait for this book to be out!

message 671: by Frances (new)

Frances McD | 13 comments That actually makes perfect sense! I hope your right Priya.
On the topic of Arobynn, do you think that he deserves to be killed? I kind of have mixed feelings on this... I feel like Aelin/Celaena has good reason to kill him after all he's done but he also has done a ton of good things for her, too. And if she does kill him, do you think it will be in this book or in a later one?

message 672: by Ale (new)

Ale (bookishunicorn) He does. Unless he shows redeeming qualities in Queen of Shadows I think he deserves to be killed for ruining Aelin's life and for taking away what she cared about. Maybe, like I said, It'll happen in Queen of Shadows but it can happen in later books.

message 673: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (TigeroftheTowerGuard) | 356 comments The title 'Throne of Glass' also has a hidden meaning which is too much of coincidence not to be intended. The king and his obsession with obsidian, the towers, collars, and rings. Obsidian is sometimes referred to as, 'volcanic glass.'

"Obsidian the gods forbade and greatly feared."

message 674: by Jess (new)

Jess Munnery (jmunners) | 46 comments Nice point, didn't know that about obsidian.
I've got mixed feeling towards Arobynn too, he did train her in horrible ways. But he made her so strong, strong enough to do what she's doing now. I think that just because he killed Sam, we're overlooking all the things he did for her. He never did them in particularly nice ways, but they all worked. If Arobynn hadn't treated her this way, I don't think she would have survived this long.
I think he is going to need to redeem himself, but I also think he's going to have to do something worse for Aeling to kill him. He's dancing on the edge of the blade right now.

message 675: by Ale (new)

Ale (bookishunicorn) Yes, one doesn't know how to feel about him. But I don't think the only reason to hate him is Sam's death. It goes beyond that, goes to all the things he made her do and she didn't want to do, to sending her to Endovier, to all the punishments and stolen dreams, to the dissapointments and the fact that he made her hate who she really was, made her hate her powers and heritage. However, I do agree with you Jess when it comes to him saving her. If it wasn't for Arobynn whe would have end up dead, and in the end he did made her a very strong woman and useful weapon. He is a complicated character, and to be honest, I don't know what he can do to redeem himself; but we'll see in Queen of Shadows.

message 676: by Abbey (new)

Abbey (ash12) | 52 comments He made her break her right arm so that she gad to use her left to fight so she would be good at both hands what kind of 'father figure' is he?!

message 677: by priya (new)

priya (gpriyaa) He did make her break one of her hands, but he didn't do it for fun. Like you said he did it so she could be better at using both her hands. Again it's complicated what he did wasn't purely bad since he did it for a good purpose.

message 678: by Serena (new)

Serena | 160 comments True, but I still think he deserves the death by Celaenin's hand. He's betrayed her and gone behind her back too many times. There was also that time in The Assassin and the Underworld where he tricked her into retrieving a list of slave housing to get back at her for the stunt she pulled in The Assassin and the Pirate Lord.

message 679: by Jess (new)

Jess Munnery (jmunners) | 46 comments Couldn't that have been just another lesson, though? Maybe he wanted her to see the extent to which slavery was happening in the Kingdom to make her feel some responsibility as the should-be Queen. Make her reconsider taking up her role?

message 680: by Serena (new)

Serena | 160 comments Maybe, but even so, I still can't forgive Arobynn for all the horrible things he's done.

message 681: by Stacy (new)

Stacy | 58 comments Responsibility?....Maybe for ruining his plans to make a profit off of selling the salves she freed. She basically ruined anyway he could of had a partnership with the pirate king, when it came to buying/selling slaves. He used her to get the papers of where the safe houses were that would help escaped slaves. What was the lesson there except cruel revenge on her defying his will and ruining his contract with the pirate king? It was even months later, and he still had to even the score. He could of had any other assassin do that job. He saved it just for her and lied about what it was. The only lesson I see is to never betray him, even if it goes against your conscious to do his biding. He wants absolute surrendering of her soul. Talk about a power trip. Not only did he beat her without mercy, he had Sam killed and her arrested for daring to leave his side. He is a very complicated character. He did teach her a lot so that she could survive through many trials. But don't over romanticize him. He is a sociopath. I think he feels she is his, to do as he wills. And it is that simple. What was the quote at the end of the novel? "I don't like people touching my things", or something like that, referring to her. I want him to die by her hands, but only after she gets every useful thing out of him.

message 682: by Serena (last edited Jun 24, 2015 04:59PM) (new)

Serena | 160 comments I know some people think that Arobynn was doing all those things to help Celaenin in some way, but I have to say that I agree with Stacy in that he's cruel, cunning, over possessive, and very manipulative. Arobynn is a complicated character and I believe that he had to have had a reason to be so horrible, but unless it's a very compelling and valid reason, he deserves what happened to Sam.

message 686: by Hannah Mae (new)

Hannah Mae | 233 comments Arobynn's feelings towards Aelin are hard to understand. Even she isn't sure if his love for her is of a lover, a father or a mentor's. There are times when it seems like he does love her, but since we all know what he's like, we including Aelin tend to think of his affection as a mask. As if there's always some other meaning behind it all.

I definitely think that Arobynn uses his "love" as a mask to manipulate Celaenin. I'm 1000% sure he does not love her. I think he may feel like she is one of his possessions that he uses, and she is kind of like his "pet" in his own sick, twisted way.

message 689: by Hannah Mae (new)

Hannah Mae | 233 comments Yes, Serena! Exactly, she's more of a possession in his eyes. Reminds me of what he said to her when he found out about Sam. How he doesn't like to share his possessions or something.

message 694: by priya (new)

priya (gpriyaa) I think Sam is really dead. It won't really help the plot much if he was alive it'd just complicate things. I don't mean this in a depressing mean non caring way but Sam has served his purpose. His story is completed, and the half effects he had on the TOG world will be ears see if he just comes back somehow.

Jess Munnery (jmunners) | 46 comments Whoop, which I think MUST mean magic will return. It's the only reason Rowan's not there now.
OR maybe they're talking through some kind of magic portal, looking glass or other etc. But that still means magic is back!
As long as they are together in some way, it's all good!

YES. THIS JUST MADE MY DAY.

message 700: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (TigeroftheTowerGuard) | 356 comments I don't know. I don't see magic being restored until book 5 or 6. Aeliin is only in Rifthold to meet up with Chaol, get her amulet back, and rescue Aedion, for now. She needs more allies. Rowan and Aelin will probably meet up back in Wendlyn.
