Hot Monkey Publishing (hotmonkey) | 1 comments The 1950s were pivotal years in Sri Lankan history. This work of epic historical fiction encapsulates the period from the points of view of people from across the entire community. It also uses "Magical Realism" as a device to explain the religious beliefs of the nation at the time.
The Devil Dancers
In recommending The Devil Dancers, we must also declare that as the publishers, we are not unbiased. :-)
However, the paperback book is available for sale at Sarasavi Bookshops in Sri Lanka.
More information, as well as reviews (including one by Prof. Walter Perera of Peradeniya Univ) may be found: here

Renuka | 1 comments When Memory Dies by A.Sivanandan gives a moving account of Sri Lanka over three generations. I found it a useful background to the current civil problems.

Dilly (dillythebookworm) | 1 comments There are 2 books written by Marie Musaeus Higgins. Those are known as "Stories from the history of Ceylon". Those books are also good. :-)
