As the wise group member Effie says, "Do the BookBub!"

Feel free to post your BookBub accounts here and we can all follow each other. For more info on why BookBub is important, check out the thread about book promotions that has ten times the posts of any other thread.

M.J. Fleming (mjflemingbooks) | 4 comments Great idea I followed you all. Has anyone here used the bookbub advertisement? I wanted to do a promotion I'm running with kindle and it was $900. I almost bit my tongue off, but they claim average sales in my genre is some where in the low 2k's ... just curious if anyone has bit that bullet ...

As for BB ads, they are expensive. I haven't tried any just because of the cost.

They have ads that are self-directed pay-per-click ads that I've had some success with.

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 33 comments M.J. wrote: "Has anyone here used the bookbub advertisement?..."

I did a Featured New Release ad in 2020 for $560 and got maybe thirty sales out if it. That was with the Kindle price at $2.99. Had I dropped the price to $0.99, as some folks here told me I should've done, even selling three times as many books would've left me farther underwater. Never again.

Wow, Lance. We all learn here, don't we? I'm so sorry. I never make my money back on promotions. It's a good thing that's not what's important to me. This is why I don't spend big.

Also on the ads topic. I ran one a few weeks ago and it was pretty successful. I did not get back what I spent, but I sold about 15 E-copies of my book.
I ran another ad to see if I could get even more exposure, and got nothing in return. so, I think it's a big gamble.

I'm curious what your price point was on your ads? I've read that anything over 99c has a hard time competing against all those super cheap sales listed above it, and was just wondering if that's possible. I'm trying to strategize a BB ad to sync up with a kindle countdown deal for my next release.

It's actually become somewhat social media like oddly enough. You can post books you want to read and people can like the book you posted and other like things.

Chris | 15 comments MJ - I have terrible luck with ads. I've done BookBubs ads and amazon ads and it's always been a waste of money for me.
On BookBubs I've never done their famous "discounted ebook" ads... only paid for ads in their newsletters... and just did one recently that cost me $200 and didn't result in a single sale.

Sigh.
:)

Chris | 15 comments Hi folks - this is my BookBubs link:

https://www.bookbub.com/authors/chris...

Like a few others have mentioned here - i don't really know how to use BookBubs.

My main book is NOT on Kindle Unlimited at the moment... but at some point when I do put it back on KU I will likely apply for one of the BookBubs discounted ad campaigns. That seems to be what BookBubs is most famous for.

Best wishes everyone :)

message 43: by D. (new)

D. Thrush | 644 comments 80% of books get turned down for a BookBub featured deal and some genres are very expensive to advertise. The PPC ads didn't work for me, and I hear the New Release ads don't get good results. But I have 2 books that were accepted for a Featured Deal in the BookBub daily email, and it was well worth it. There are lasting long term affects. That's why you see traditionally published books advertised there. Because their ads get long lasting results.

message 44: by Chris (new)

Chris | 15 comments Thanks D.
It'd be nice to do something that finally gave a book some momentum of its own... so i didn't have to keep it pushing it endlessly.
Sounds like the featured deals would certainly help create some momentum, if one is lucky enough to be accepted for one.

Thank you.

message 45: by P.L. (new)

P.L. Tavormina | 174 comments I think (could be wrong) that Bookbub selects books that are 'wide' more often than those that are on kindle unlimited (kindle select). I've never gotten a deal and I am in KU.

In case that's useful.

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 380 comments Hi Chris. BB and Amazon ads are difficult. They work differently, so you have to learn each platform on its own. Moreover, from what I've heard, it's typical to spend a lot of money learning and tweaking before you get something that actually works. So it's not you. It's just a hard thing to get right.

message 47: by Dale (new)

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 380 comments In other news, so far I'm not impressed with BookRezz results. Tweets have been going out several times a day. Presumably FB posts have been, too, but I can't find them. In one week of this, I've had 2 sales, which may or may not have been attributable to them. The promo lasts for 2 months, so maybe it will pick up some steam eventually, but right now it looks like a waste of money.

message 48: by Chris (new)

Chris | 15 comments BookRezz? I will have to look that up - I've not heard of it.

But in general.. i don't know how to make social media work for my book. I've had bookstagrammars say really glowing things about my book... and their post will get dozens and dozens of "likes"... but not a single sale happens.
