For the "person’s name in the title” pick for the August book of the month, the group will be reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.

For more information about the Book of the Month, see the introduction post

* Part 1 - Chapters 1-6
* Part 2 - Chapters 7-13
* Part 3 - Chapters 14-20
* Part 4 - Chapters 21-27

Mods will provide one, slightly guided question. Discussion will then be completely open. If you have any questions yourself, feel free to post them. Subsequent comments can then answer whichever questions they find to be inspiring.

Question: What do you think of the book so far? Reactions?

AnnaG | 95 comments I'm loving it. I've got the audio version and the atmosphere created by the first chapter as she goes up the drive was amazing. Usually I prefer a written book to audio, but in this case, the narrator has managed to get the perfect tone for it and when the scene moves to Monaco, the accents are spot on.

I'm up to the first meeting with Mr De Winter and hoping that I am witnessing the start of a truly epic romance. (PS - I don't actually know the plot, so here's hoping this comment ages well!)

I love hearing this because I was thinking of getting the audiobook!

message 4: by Lin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lin (linnola) | 557 comments I’m enjoying the book more than I thought I would. I went into reading the book with no hint of the plot. (I’m not a classic’s reader)

My library didn’t have this on audio. I would have preferred audio but I’m finding the book a much easier read than anticipated.

Milena (milenas) | 760 comments Anna, who is the narrator of your audio version? I started the written version because I have about 4 audiobooks waiting for me, but I may switch to audio at some point when my other books are done.
I am about 5 chapters in and loving it so far. I love the descriptions of Monte Carlo. The drives especially are reminding me of Princess Grace's accident.

It's Anna Massey. I've now finished the book and it is good in audio, but it is a bit long at 13 hrs...

Bec | 1342 comments I’m liking it better than I thought I would - but I started listening to the abridged audio version and then decided I didn’t want abridged so am now reading kindle. So I already knew what happened to this stage.

Stephanie | 93 comments I am really enjoying this book so far! I like the intrigue with Mr. de Winter... what does he want with an innocent plain girl like the protagonist? Also really enjoyed the author's discourse on 'the fever of first love'. Such great writing.

To me, it feels a bit slow to get going.
