Hannah Smith | 52 comments Hi guys & gals,

I was wondering if anyone knew a rough estimate of how long a Primary School will keep their students Library records for? I'm trying to find certain books I got out from 10+ years ago but I am very doubtful they will still have them :(

Cheers!

My guess is not very long. However, each district or school is probably different. It never hurts to call and find out.

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 433 comments I don't know if school libraries even keep records like that because public libraries delete that info as soon as you return the books. They do this to protect the patrons' privacy. Don't mean to rain on your parade, but like Lobstergirl said, it can't hurt to try. Good luck.

Scott I would love if I could find this out, but when I was in school they were still using cards in files.

Krystal (00krystal) | 132 comments Just throwing this out there - the public library where I worked most certainly did not delete a patron's records once a book was returned. We could go back months or years, if needed, to see a patron's circulation history. So keep in mind, it'll most likely be different for each individual library, school or public or otherwise. I don't know about 10+ years, but it never hurts to ask. :)
