SOLVED. General fiction (maybe) about a very active guy who had an accident that left him partially paralyzed, starts working for an old recluse who ends up being a vampire and maybe keeps him as a prisoner? [s]

Alina and I are trying to find this book. I think the main character was attacked by a shark or something while swimming. I'm pretty sure he was working on a cruise ship when it happened.
I read the book sometime after 2007, but not sure exactly when. I don't think it was a newly published book, and I don't think it was YA fiction.

You're welcome. I can't think there are so many books in which the MC is attacked by a shark and then imprisoned by a reclusive vampire;-) I just happened to have read this one.
