I liked them both. Read Under the Dome 3 times in rapid succession. First the book and then listened to the audio. the TV series really ruined it for some people, but the book is great.

mrbooks | 1469 comments Both are fantastic books Vernon. It is a shame they can't make a decent series out of his books for some reason they like to ruin them. I tried watching a couple of his series and was sadly disappointed. I won't attempted to do that again.

I know nothing about the "newer" King novels and I've got "Just after Sunset" and "Under the Dome" next on the list. Rather than taking this dip that so man fans talk about, King just keeps on impressing me...."

I've never felt he hit a slump at any point. I enjoy some of his books more than others, but it has everything to do with me. I am never, ever disappointed bu his actual writing. Story sometimes, writing never.

I too, listened to Duma Key on Audiobook. It was a good one to listen to. Of course the family always wondered what I was doing sitting out in the car all night. :)

I just saw what you wrote here and I really had to laugh because I do the same thing. I listen to books on tape in my car and when I get home I never want to go inside, because I want to keep listening. Sometimes my mom will text me asking where I am, because she doesn't know I'm sitting in the garage in my car, haha. Unfortunately, last month I actually ruined my car battery by doing this too much. So in addition to buying a new car battery, I also bought myself a discman so I can listen to the books on tape anywhere now...yeah!yeah
I really loved Duma Key. I just didn't want that story to end.

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Love Duma Key. BTW, audiobooks will download to your smartphone. If you have Bluetooth (or even just a cable) you can connect to your car radio and play the audiobook from your phone. Then add a headset and you can actually come inside and listen... or take it with you when you walk. Pretty sure downloadable audio books are less expensive than CDs.

mrbooks | 1469 comments Duma Key is a good book, LOL I know I say that about most of his books.

Atlanta (dark_leo) | 107 comments It’s a hard book for me as I’m an artist, I’m divorced, I recently overcame a disability and went back to work full time. It’s got a slow building suspense .

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments M.E.V. - I love this book too, and Wireman (muchacho) is one of my all-time favorite King characters.

Derrick | 973 comments Just started this and it's already been super emotional. I have no clue where any of this could possibly lead at such an early stage. Just to be safe, I better strap myself in. I have a feeling it's going to get bumpy....

I believe this one is in his top five. Not only is the book fantastic, but the audio, read by John Slattery, is exceptional.

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments This is a great, under read King book. The characters drive the story so well, I felt like the unreal aspects of the novel were unnecessary.

I'm enjoying this so much already. I can really relate to the parts concerning his relationship with the younger daughter. Again, super emotional. Also the parts with the little girl going through a lot of the same things as Edgar, her name just so happens to be Elizabeth. Elizabeth is my own daughter's middle name. Man, this book is really getting to me. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Charles | 96 comments If it's already affecting you, then may I suggest a bottle of wine or a six pack for the latter parts.

Well unfortunately I'm not much of a drinker. I do however favor a greener approach to dealing with my emotions. I'm having a hard time putting this one down at night. I expect to finish it sooner rather than later.

Misty | 31 comments I'm behind the game, but I just finished this book last week, and I LOVED IT!!! I loved it so much that I think it is tied with It for my second favorite King book. I devoured this book. It is a slow burn for a while, but only after you get to the end of that part do you realize just how deeply King has been screwing with your brain. LOL. When a certain somebody shows up in the house, I jumped out of my skin. I literally had goose flesh, and IT WAS AMAZING! When I was near the end, I went to bed, and I should have just stayed up until 2am to finish because I couldn't sleep thinking about the book. LOL. What a ride.

Jolyne Kujoh | 6 comments It's interesting to see all the love for Duma Key :) I'm struggling through it right now and I'm finding it as dull as The Talisman, but all the positive comments are making me hopeful that it picks up.

I'm not really sure what's boring me about it, I'm interested in the set-up, the writing is good, it's just not clicking so far

Rosalyn | 19 comments Absolutely loved Duma Key. I remember feeling the story sort of slowing at one point aswell but keep reading. Found it to be a beautiful journey!

message 370: by Derrick (new)

Derrick | 973 comments I felt like Duma Key was a very emotional book. Definitely a slow burn but well worth it in the end.

I posted this in the wrong thread. Hoping someone can assist!

Shelby Ribel (shelbysbooks2010) | 3 comments Started reading about two summers ago and life happened and I put it on hold. I’m already about 300 pages in so I really don’t want to start over. I feel as if I recall a lot but for fear of forgetting anything important, is anyone familiar enough with this novel to give me a rundown of chapters 1-9? Thanks in advance!
