Chinook | 639 comments My understanding is that you do a rainbow of cover choices (which takes its inspiration from the Pride rainbow) and then those choices should also be own voices books, but are not limited to lgbtq+ books.

message 52: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments I thought the discussion said this was going to be limited to 10 prompts... although the rules don't say that. I am not if favor of having more than one multi-week prompt and picking one from 20 options seems like too many options.

message 53: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 639 comments I think how this is going to go is a work in progress in terms of voting. Which is understandable because I think so far in the years of voting we haven’t yet hit on the best way to handle multi-prompts. So my thoughts are that we will see how the parameters for voting shape up for this year and then we can see if those rules result in a process we like, which may be fine tuned for next year.

This is a fantastic suggestion. Love this prompt.

Two books of the same genre written more than 50 years apart

I'm a mystery lover, so I'd go with a classic by Agatha Christie and then maybe a recent release.

Or you could go with Lady Chatterly's Lover and follow up with modern smut. Or maybe go with a Zora Neale Hurston book and a Toni Morrison book. I think it could be a fun way to look at the way different genres have evolved.

I'm seconding that!

Marin, can you explain what you mean?

nomadreader (Carrie D-L) (nomadreader) | 1 comments Three books published in or set in three different centuries.

message 61: by Marin (new)

Marin (marinbeth) | 187 comments Yes, I mean one book with an eastward journey and one with a westward journey (or north-south and south-north). Off the top of my head, that could be Around the World in Eighty Days (eastward) and The Map of Salt and Stars (westward).

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments nomadreader (Carrie D-L) wrote: "Three books published in or set in three different centuries."

I second this

Correct. But the way it is worded there is so much emphasis on “pride” and “rainbow” that it seems to be exclusively about glbtq rather than all forms of diversity. Thus why I suggested rewording.

message 65: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 639 comments Yes, I think a rewording is a good idea.

message 66: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenbooknstuff) | 0 comments Four books related to the four food groups (fruit/vegetables, protein, dairy, and grains).

I'm not that great at explaining, but one for fruit/vegetables could have an apple on the cover, grains could have bread as a topic, protein could have fish in the title, and dairy could have some cheese on the cover (as an example).

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
Is there a way that you would suggest re-wording it? Totally open to whatever because I did intend what Chinook clarified.

Updating the main topic now. Thanks Emily, you’re awesome, as always :)

Just trying to help (and find distraction from school starting next week!)

I would say to take out the “in celebration of PRIDE” if you’re looking to clear it up, but I don’t want to change your intentions of the prompt.

message 69: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
I modified it to this before reading your comment: To celebrate PRIDE, three “own voices” books, from any marginalized group, inspired by the colors of the rainbow

Is that better or would people prefer that it be: Three “own voices” books, inspired by the colors of the rainbow

message 70: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
I like that better than the original version, and you still have PRIDE connected to the rainbow in there. Plus, that would be a fun set of prompts to have in June next year.

message 71: by redatt (new)

redatt (mini_sagas) | 66 comments Three books relating to the primary colours red, yellow and blue. For example, could be a word in the title, colour of the cover, mood or behaviour associated with that colour (anger, sadness, cowardice).

message 72: by Lizzy (new)

Lizzy | 907 comments I suggest 3 books from 3 countries whose borders touch.

I've no votes left, but I like it!

message 74: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3839 comments I second Lizzy’s suggestion about 3 countries with borders that touch!

message 75: by Maple (new)

Maple (maplerie) | 1025 comments Four books related to a deck of cards.

This can the suits, the numbers, the face cards, etc. It can be featured in the title, cover, synopsis, etc.

message 76: by Jette (new)

Jette | 323 comments I second four books related to a deck of cards.

message 77: by Liz (new)

Liz | 516 comments So many of these would be fun to research. This could easily be a reading challenge in & of itself. I think someone may have already mentioned that, but I’m seconding their opinion. 😉

Yea I think my rejects challenge will just be a bunch of multi-weeks next year. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do as my rejects, but this is it.

message 84: by Nadja (last edited Aug 01, 2019 07:21AM) (new)

Nadja 3 books linked by Past, Present, Future

eg. different genres: Classic/Historical Fiction, Contemporary Fiction and SciFi
same genre: Romance: Historical Romance or a Classic, ChickLit, romantic SciFi/Fantasy

edit: if someone has better examples, please share them. :)

message 85: by Liz (new)

Liz | 516 comments I’ll second Nadja’s

message 86: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Sterling | 452 comments That's 20!

message 87: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3839 comments For Nadia’s suggestion (past, present, future), the way I would interpret is- Past: Set in a time previous to the publish date (at least a few decades); Present: contemporary WHEN it was written, and Future: set in the future. I wouldn’t include books that include more than one of these settings.

message 88: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3839 comments I actually like these prompts better than the ones we have already selected. Good job submitters w getting creative!
