YA Sci-Fi about flying boy and reanimated robots underground

SPOILERS IN LAST TWO SENTENCES:

One of my library patrons is trying to find this book he read a couple years ago (he said it's most likely published after 2005). The protagonist is a teen boy who can fly. He's the only one with this power. He's found by a man who discovers the boy has powers (because the man saw/found his cape??) and waits outside his house for him.

Then the man introduces him to his world--he lives underground building a robot and making it come to life. At the end, the boy discovers the main is the villain. The boy flies through the sewer system and has to battle smaller robots in order to get to the big robot that the man is building.
