Harry sees Cho for the first time. And I quote, she was extremely pretty, and when she smiled at him he felt a slight lurch in his stomach that had nothing to do with nerves. Heh.
My favorites parts of the Quidditch matches: the McGonagall-Jordan dialogue.
Okay, the Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw match.
Is it just me or did Harry summon a corporeal Patronus for the first time? Before, it's always been described as an indistinct shadow, but this says something huge that charged at Malfoy and co.

Seems like it. I thought it didn't happen until the time loop, but that might just be the movie.

Yea. This is great.
I love how everyone has the story of Black so wrong, Rowling info dumps most of the details correctly, but just enough to leave us surprised when we learn the truth.
The Marauders Map! Funny how Harry gets another of his father's things, but doesn't know it yet.

Yea. Knowing Lupin is Moony puts an entirely new spin on the conversation between Snape and Lupin after he finds Harry with the Marauder's Map. Snape definitely knows about the Map and where it came from.
Does Snape know? Or just suspect? He obviously doesn't know how to use it. Though I haven't reached that scene in the book.
He knows, during the conversation Lupin's saying he thinks Harry got the Map from Zonko's, but then Snape says he more inclined to believe he got it directly from the manufacturers, and was staring at Lupin and stuff.

-Harry realizes the woman screaming is his mother as Voldemort murders her. Damn, this book is dark.
-Lupin mentions that the Whomping Willow was planted when he started at school. He fails to mention that it was planted because of him. It's planted over the entrance to the Shrieking Shack, where Lupin used to go to transform in school.
-Ron and Hermione are great friends. They stay at Hogwarts with Harry over Christmas to keep him company.
-I also doubt that Fred and George were ever innocent.
-It doesn't occur to Harry to go grab his invisibility cloak before sneaking into Hogsmeade. Rookie mistake.
-Rosmerta says she would have never expected Sirius to go to the dark side. Interesting because I imagine his family is rather well known, being an old Pureblood family. They likely know he comes from a line of dark wizards (at least suspected) so I would think people wouldn't be shocked by it. “Oh, look at his family, it's not a surprise.”
-Harry gets an information overload here about his parents and Sirius. The one bit of information he doesn't get until the end of the series is that it was Snape who informed Dumbledore about Voldemort's plans to go after James and Lily.
-We also learn about how Hagrid got his motorbike and he was the one to pull Harry from the wreckage. Awww.
-Fudge gave Sirius his newspaper. Sirius missed doing the crossword.
-Obviously, Ron and Hermione hear it all too. It's bad enough that Harry has to hear the whole tragic story about his parents and their best friend but he can't even keep it to himself and tell Ron and Hermione when he's ready. Ugh.
Ch. 11
-Harry checks his photo album for Sirius. Apparently he looks completely different, totally unrecognizable. So there's my explanation.
-Poor Hagrid. :-(
-I want a Weasley sweater. Blue, please.
-Hermione is pretty inconsiderate about Crookshanks. It's one think to let him out in the common room as it is the common room but bringing him up into Harry's and Ron's dormitory is downright rude.
-I'm on Hermione's side about the Firebolt. Better to be safe than sorry, even though it was sent by Sirius but not to harm Harry.
Ch. 12
-I feel bad for Hermione. Her heart is in the right place. She must be pretty lonely at this point.
-Hermione knows about Lupin but won't tell Ron and Harry since they're currently not on speaking terms.
-My patronus would totally be a velociraptor.
-If I were Harry, I would be a little annoyed with Lupin that he didn't mention his friendship with James.
-How does Wood have time himself for 5 practices per week? N.E.W.T. classes have to be more work than O.W.L. or earlier...
-Crookshanks stole Neville's password list and Scabbers/Peter fakes his death (again).
Ch. 13
-Hermione has to be so stressed with all of her classes, arguing with Ron constantly, helping Hagrid, and worrying about Harry.
-Aww, Harry's crush on Cho Chang begins. Also more Community references for me. Cho is now related to Senor Chang in my head.
-Fred's reaction to the commotion from Sirius breaking in: “Excellent! Are we carrying on?”
Ch. 14
-Snape totally looks like Jafar in the chapter illustration, right?
-Hagrid tells Ron and Harry about Hermione being so upset. Good friend, Hagrid. I feel so much for Hermione in this book.
-Snape realllly hated James. I think it's time to let it go, dude.
-I love the map's insults.
-I wonder how they made it. The only thing we know if that is similar is Riddle's diary. I doubt they used dark magic to make the map but I'm still curious.
-Lupin on the mapmakers: “We've met.” Bit of an understatement, buddy.
Yea, the Snape illustration caught me off guard. I somehow expected someone looking like Alan Rickman.
I think my Patronus would probably be a sloth, or maybe a panda.

I was thinking sloth also or cat. I love lying around reading barely moving for hours and hours.
What a extremely lucky coincidence that Fudge just happened to give Black the paper on the day that Ron's family was on the cover. From the tone that Fudge tells the story in why would he give anything to Sirius at all?
