If one of your favorite authors writes a book in a different genre, do you read it, even if that genre isn't your norm?

Sarah :) | 42 comments I would if I liked what the story was about...

I am not a PNR fan at all (although I am reading BDB right now). I finally gave in and read KA's Fantasyland Series and it was awesome. I am not sure if I would read any other of my favorite authors if they switched generes. It is a tough call

BDB...is that black dagger brotherhood???? If so, that series does look intriguing

Yep, BDB is Black Dagger Brotherhood. I am loving it. I don't know if I will read any more PNR beyond this series, but I have to go with my mood. Previously I read a lot of YA/NA, now I have a hard time reading them.

Paganalexandria | 118 comments It depends. I've had some good and bad luck with that. I loved Sherrilyn Kenyon, known for her Dark Hunter books Fantasy Lover (Dark-Hunter companion novel) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Night Pleasures (Dark-Hunter, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon , sci-fi Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon , and historicals as Kinley MacGregor Born in Sin (Brotherhood/MacAllister, #3) by Kinley MacGregor . Yet didn't like her foray into YA with Nick's story Infinity (Chronicles of Nick, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon at all. This solidifies my previous take on this. If it's a genre I'm indifferent about, or not familiar like sci-fi, I'll take a chance. If it's a genre that i have a visceral abhorrence to like YA, I'll spare me the time suck, and them the bad review.

Stephanie John (authorsteph) | 22 comments I'm a big fan of Sylvia Day. Her contemporary romance novels are easy to read and have been an inspiration for my own writing. However, I don't enjoy paranormal or fantasy in general, and have to say I'm not all that interested in reading her series in those genres. Same with the historical although I'd been more inclined to try them.
I enjoy Sylvain Reynard Gabriel series but probably won't look at the new Raven series.
Also have a sneaky suspicion that EL James next book might be a different genre. Don't know why...:-) but if that's the case not sure I'll pick that up either.

I totally agree w/ you...LOVE the Gabriel series, but not sure about the Raven that's coming out...

I absolutely loved TWILIGHT, but after that, had no desire to read other vampire books....though the black dagger brotherhood does sound interesting, still just don't think its my thing.

In all honesty, if I were her, would be terrified to release anything. So much pressure. lol

Think I must be the only person in the world never to have read or watched any of the Twilight books! They just don't appeal in the slightest.
But, hey, each to their own. The world would be a boring place if everyone loved the same thing!

Hey...I used to make fun of my friend when she told me about TWILIGHT....I saw parts of the first movie and thought I'd try the book....WOW. I was hooked...and then that led to FSOG, which got me back into reading...
