SOLVED. A book about dragons in my early reader years about a girl falling in love with a dragon on an island with herbs... [s]

I cant remember for the life of me the title of this book! The cover had a young girl on it in the middle looking up, forest behind her with a white draon ascending over her.
The book itself was filed under young adult at the library but the continuation of the series was in adult fiction because eventually she gives birth.
Back to the first book though, there is an island with some herbs that are rare and humans may only go so far into the island to pick them. The main character meets a male dragon who teaches her to talk with her mind (the way all the dragons talk to each other) and they try to stop a plot by some of the humans to take over the island (that part is fuzzy). In the end all is not well as the dragon is injured and out of sheer will, becomes a human and returns with the girl to the human world. Thus the next book which goes on to tell about them living together and having a half-born dragon baby.

I don't know if this one is the book. I wouldn't have thought it would ever be shelved as young adult, but Song in the Silence by Elizabeth Kerner is really similar to what you described.
