Manybooks I think for a read-aloud, Because of Mr. Terupt and its sequel, Mr. Terupt Falls Again, with their short chapters, would work very well. Both books are popular, deal with school and real issues and also have some good messages (and because the chapters are short, one can easily read one chapter, or even a few chapters and then stop reading and continue another day, another class without there perhaps needing to be an artificial feeling stop in the middle of a chapter which often can happen with books that have mostly longer chapters). For me, the constant switching of points of view were a bit distracting, but I think for the intended age group, these books work very well (and not just for read alouds, the short chapters would, I think, also work well with students who are struggling or reluctant readers, as they are simple enough but also not simplistic).

I've heard really good things about this book, and it has been recommended to me by several people for a read aloud as well. Thanks Gundula!

I think it would work very well as a read-aloud, and there is also much material for discussion.
