Fantasy/ SciFi book with masted ship with a blue ring around it flying in the air

I only remember the cover of this book, which was a fantasy, maybe a little scifi. There were mountains and flying through the mountains was a masted ship, with a mast coming out of the top and bottom, with a blue ring going around the ship. I believe the first book of a trilogy. The main character was a young adult male, bit of a "chosen one" theme. Read it around 2008-09. Could have been published around the very early 2000s, maybe late 90s.

Maybe something by Robin Hobb? She seems to have a lot of ships on the covers of her books (the original covers, anyway) and she's been writing for a long time.

Can't help with that but if it is the sailing that interested you, you might try "The RCN Series (also known as the Lt. Leary series[or Leary and Mundy series" those are about spacecraft with sails : )
