Unbroken
question
Unbroken or Devil at my Heels?

Have any of you also read Devil at my Heels, Zamperini's autobiography that was published about 5+ years before Unbroken? If any of you have, please let me know what you thought of both. I originally liked Unbroken, but having glanced through Devil at my Heels, I am a little concerned that Hillenbrand did little more than a cut and paste in some parts. Is it possible to plagiarize a biography?

I've read both and liked both. I read Unbroken before Devil at my Heels. I personally enjoyed both.
I haven't read Devil, but haven't read any complaints about common material, either. I like Hillenbrand's style, listened to it as an audiobook with Edward Hermann narrating. I'm a big fan of ww2 memoirs myself, so it's a matter of do you want it straight from his viewpoint, or told with a broader scope, because Hillenbrand interviewed a few other people connected to the events. The memoir will be limited to just what he saw and heard.
Hope this helps.

This book was transformational. It is riveting in its account of the strength of the human spirit. It is one of the best stories I have encountered of, how we can overcome, even at the moment when our bodies want to give in. The underlying message, of anything is possible rings true to the very end. I was captivated and engulfed, a true sign of a great story. One that shows us all, that no matter what the odds the human spirit, if applied, can never be broken. A very inspiring novel, to say the least. As far as the overlap goes, I am not going to comment on that. All I know is that I recommended this book to a number of people, and their collective response was 100% positive. I love stories like these. it was one of my inspirations for writing my own blog, of experiences in my life. Although it has one of the worst blog titles to date, I feel that people resonate to true content and want to be uplifted.

I love unbroken. Because it's about the up lifted human spirt.
This is a wonderful book and one written with care and great detailed truth about someone who was a friend and mentor for 20 years. Louis' life exemplifies the best and worst the humanity with resilience and triumph as crowning hallmarks of his well-lived life. Even though no book or film can truly capture the beauty and blessed tapestry of his life, this book is extremely well done and would be of value to anyone of any age. Louis always exhorted the youth to be hearty...and this book proves that he knew what he was talking about. Heartrending and inspiring. I treasure this book and recommend it highly! I did read his other book and enjoyed it, but somehow Unbroken's more substantive and emotive facets gripped me more deeply. I can tell you that Louis took great pride and care in working with Hillenbrand for the book ... and was pleased during the long process of uncovering documentation and historical references in his possession as well as in others' .
My sister had given me a GLOWING review of this book. NOT being a fan of "war genre" anything, I took it up with quite a bit of reservation. I can't thank her enough.
Zamperini's life is an amazing testament to the indomitable human spirit. So moving and motivational that I intend to gift this book to my 10 year old grandson very soon.
