Morgan Sumner | 2 comments I cannot for the life of me remember a book I read years ago. I believe it was part of a series. If i remember correctly, the book begins with a boy and his father living in the woods together trapping and such. Eventually his father is out hunting ahead of the son and says for the son to stop. He tells the son he was crushed by a tree. The son cries and is sad and gets his stuff from the camp and journeys to the nearest town. I vaguely believe he travels around some through the country and heads south. Apparently you cant cross the desert or reach any of the other countries. As he is going a robot appears and i remember it said “the robot spoke a strange language and after hearing (main character) slowly closed his eyes for a second then opened them and spoke English. He said his father wasnt crushed and was a robot too. Something like that. Book ends. Any ideas?

Also i think the new planet was a colony and the robot overlords were supposed to keep countries from interacting and have each one form a different type of government to determine the best way for humans to rule over one another. So one country is royalty, another is democracy etc. but i might be wrong

Nachelle | 160 comments This sounds like it could be Orson Scott Card's "Pathfinder" series.

Glad you found your book, Morgan. Here's the link for Nachelle's find - the first book in the series by Orson Scott Card - Pathfinder.
