Melissa (cloudsgirl27) | 1 comments In the summer of 2007, my mother's friend gave her a book called The Quickie by James Patteson. She read it and left it on the coffee table. I picked it up and my mom thought I'd like the book. I was hooked! I devoured all the books written by James Patterson. I was actually caught up on all his books at one point, that's how much reading I was getting in. Then I think he got too famous or whatever and some of his new books were co-written with other people... and I wasn't feeling a few of them. And then I started to get into other types of books and authors. Anyway, I'm looking for a new go-to author... someone with range in all genres-- I'm a random genre kinda girl. Comment with your recommends :)

RD Schou | 5 comments QUARRELING PASTS- a book about a killer, Jeremy Ryker who meets a woman named Violet Hutchinson, she intrigues him and even though his intentions with her are the same as any of his other victims, he decides to give her a little more time than most. Engaging in this latest mark has upset the balance of his proposed life purpose as he learns there are things about her that correlate to his past. He's becoming more certain that they've crossed paths before. His deep seeded nature is fighting to conclude his dalliance with Violet and move on, but his past is unraveling, because of her...

I'd suggest you read through some of the reviews in the WHAT ARE YOU READING / REVIEWS folder. Here's the LINK for July-Sept Reviews to get you started.

As for "someone with range in all genres" ... that's a tough nut to crack. But have you tried Stephen King? He writes MORE than just horror.

KeenReader Have you tried the literature map? It a project by a German guy who is interested in AI and data mining. He's written a mathematical algorithm that rates how similar authors are, based on how likely it is that readers will like both of them.
If you type "literature map" into a search engine I think you'll find it. I'm not inserting the URL because I don't know if it's OK to do that,
I've used it a few times and found some interesting new (to me) authors, so it works even though it's not clear what data he uses to draw up the map.

Catie | 53 comments A favorite author of mine is David Baldacci. He's in the vein of Patterson but I think he has much more interesting stories and has tighter prose. Not quite so formulatic either.

message 9: by Candy (new)

Candy | 1 comments I too enjoy and have read every book written by Baldacci. Others along the same lines of mystery, suspense, detective that I have to read are Michael Connelly, Nicholas Petrie, Lee Child, Harlan Coben and Thomas Perry.

Gween Beltrán | 12 comments One of my favorite authors is Joss Stirling, I’ve read all of her books and they are really awesome, it is always a good moment if you want something new and that you can read without difficulties. The worlds that she creates have that sparkle of fantasy in the real world. ☺️

message 11: by Kris (new)

Kris (genzuya) I have different ones from different genres that I absolutely love.
YA: Ellen Hopkins. Her novels are written as poetry that tells a story. Usually addresses things like addiction, abuse, self-harm, etc. Very emotional.
Fiction: Liane Moriarty. I've only read a handful of her books but I've breezed through each and every one of them. I absolutely love them! Really good books to curl up and read.
Poetry: Robert M. Drake. I've been following his work since about 2012-ish and love everything he puts out.

Those are the three genres I tend to read the most of. Hope I helped! :)

Catie | 53 comments Another author I read and like very much is Celeste Ng. She is the complete opposite genre but her books are always tinged with a good dose of tension. That plus good plots and tight writing make her stories worth exploring. Plus for mystery/police procedural/PI, have you looked at Steve Hamilton and William Kent Krueger? Both superior story tellers...two of my top 5 authors! In fact, probably #1 and #2!

message 13: by Caroline (new)

Caroline Walken (carolinewalken) | 1 comments Aw fond memories; I had always been a fan of Patricia Cornwell but especially after I introduced her books to my Dad. My favorite memories are of our reading the same book and talking about it. The last book he checked out had been one by this author as a matter of fact. Truth be told it is why I started writing. I appreciated the connection a book could make between people. I love it when someone emails me or sends me an instant message while reading the story I've written. It takes me back to the time when he and I would sit at the kitchen table, sharing our love of a novel.

Sigh...ok, walking out of memory lane! LOL, My apologies for the unscheduled trip!
