Ilsen | 522 comments Goodness I know there is a strong lead on us. Currently I am reading A Problematic Paradox which counts for task 17, 22, and 42

👏🏻I’ll add it to the tracking part of the spreadsheet. Let me know when you finish it. And yeah the other teams are pulling ahead. I’m going to pause the book I’m reading right now because it’s taking too long to read and I’m going to start some of the shorter books instead.

Hey Ilsen, Dana and Anna,
In category 6 we only have these 2 tasks left:
40. A book that is a prequel
41. A book that is the last in a series

Could someone read something for those 2? You get bonus points for completing an entire category and getting bonus points will pull us ahead of the other teams!

message 54: by Anna (new)

Anna (bookgirl2) | 9 comments I’m also reading:
Scar Island- read a book mostly set on an island
I Will Always Write Back- read a book where a main character falls out with a friend or best friend

I’ll add it to the spreadsheet. Just tell me when you finish it so I can add the finished date

message 56: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 522 comments I can take 40! I’ll read Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them next!

Great! I’ll add it to the spreadsheet! Just tell me the start and finished date when you’ve finished reading it😊

message 58: by Anna (new)

Anna (bookgirl2) | 9 comments I have finished I Will Always Write Back- I definitely recommend it, it’s now one of my favorite books

message 59: by Anna (new)

Anna (bookgirl2) | 9 comments Read a book where a character falls out with a friend- Caitlin falls out with her friend Lauren

I’ll add it to the spreadsheet Anna! I just finished reading Ghost and I highly recommend it. Such a great book!! Also I finished Bridge to Terabithia yesterday so now we have 3 points! I’m starting Echo’s Sister right now.

Keep ‘em coming people! The other teams are pulling ahead majorly and no way are we going to lose by such a big margin! We shall crush all opponents! It’s also a really great excuse to read more. I mean I haven’t read 1 book after the other like this since before 2019 so this is great!

Dana Storytime Account I was super excited I finished my first book but I just went to double check and it's listed as upper grade. Sorry guys!!! I'll figure out something to read soon and get it posted, sorry I haven't been pulling my share.

Hey Dana! Man that’s a pain! You put all that effort in. Still if it was a good read then it wasn’t like it was a waste of your time.

I was actually hoping you could read something for these tasks:
41. A book that is the last in a series
1. A book with 3 or more scenes at a beach
4. A book with a character whose first name is also a flower

If you could find and read something for any of those that would be so helpful! Let me know if you find something for them😊

Dana Storytime Account I can probably reread Saving Shiloh for 41 I guess and then I'll start reading the books I actually had picked out for some of the other tasks.

I don't have anything for the other 2, I know I already struggled to find a book for #4 when it was a task for a different challenge I did.

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4318 comments Mod
Up to you Dana! I thought we’d get more points if we focused on completing categories to get the extra 5 points from each but if you want to read for tasks from other ones because you’ve planned for them then that’s also completely fine. We’ll get points either way plus you’ll be reading cool books which is the ultimate bonus.

Also, you don’t have to reread the book if you don’t want to it’s ok I can actually read that book. Is it good? Really I couldn’t find any books for those tasks so I needed help from you guys. I’m in between books right now and can’t find a copy of the book I’m looking for so I’m definitely free to read that book if I can find a copy of it.

message 65: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4318 comments Mod
So update: I can’t read Saving Shiloh because it’s not the first book in the series and I haven’t read the other books🤦🏻‍♀️ also is that a Disney channel star on the front cover of the book? The guy from Sonny with a Chance and that awful Hatching Pete movie?😂😂😂

message 66: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4318 comments Mod
Hey everyone so I just wanted to let you know that I found a book for task 41. A book that is the last in a series which I’m going to read after I’ve finished reading Echo’s Sister which I’ve just started so that task has been fulfilled in case anyone was looking for a book for it.

I also found a book for task 7. A book published in August of any year called Ban This Book by Alan Gratz. It looks really great and I’m just waiting to find a copy of it so I’ve added that to the list of books I’m going to read (just in case anyone was looking for a book for that task too). Wow this challenge is really pushing me to read a lot of books! I like it!

message 67: by Anna (new)

Anna (bookgirl2) | 9 comments Can you remove Mortal Engines from the spreadsheet? I’ve DNFed it

Dana Storytime Account Kadi wrote: "So update: I can’t read Saving Shiloh because it’s not the first book in the series and I haven’t read the other books🤦🏻‍♀️ also is that a Disney channel star on the front cover of the book? The gu..."

I think you may be mixing two Disney stars up, I think the newer cover is the kid from Hatching Pete/Good Luck Charlie, I don't think he was in Sonny though.

Dana Storytime Account Is anybody reading for #5, a book with summer in the title? I can read Summer on Earth by Peter Thompson to try to help us get that first section completed for the bonus points if that counts (it's not on the website but is in the juvenile fiction section and reviewed as MG on goodreads)

message 70: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4318 comments Mod
@Anna yep I’ll remove it👍🏻

@Dana omg I am mixing up 2 actors!🤦🏻‍♀️ at least Hatching Pete was right though😂 and no one is reading anything for task 5 so go ahead with your book! Strange it’s not on the website but it’s definitely MG so sounds fine👏🏻 let me know when you finish it!

message 71: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 522 comments Hello, I finally worked out everything that I want to read for the challenge! I actually have an idea so we can get three more points and finish a category.

So for the prequel I can read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I also want to read the rest of Hogwarts Library since they are short so I can Quidditch Through the Ages for a character who can fly (18) and The Tales of Beedle the Bard for the last book in a series (41).

So yea that’s the plan. Let me know if you want me to do that!

message 72: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4318 comments Mod
That sounds great Ilsen! I'll add it to the spreadsheet. Let me know the dates of when you're starting/finished it so we can get those points😊

message 73: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 522 comments Perfect!

Are Quidditch through the Ages and Tales of Beedle the Bard long enough? I know the copy of Quidditch through the Ages I have is only like 60 pages

message 75: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4318 comments Mod
Wow thanks for letting me know.

So Ilsen it depends on the copy of it you’re going to be reading. As far as I can see Tales of Beedle the Bard should be fine because most editions are more than 100 pages but for Quidditch Through the Ages some editions are like 60 pages and some are like 105 so it depends on the editions you will be reading. Could you let me know if they are both more than 100 pages? Otherwise they don’t count😩

message 76: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 522 comments Fantastic Beasts is 123, Quidditch Through the Ages is 106, and Tales of Beedle the Bard is 110 so we are good XD

Yayayayay!🙌🏻🙌🏻

message 78: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 522 comments Ok I finished my first book which is A Problematic Paradox for task 42! I started it on August 2nd and finished it August 9th (aka today)!

message 79: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 522 comments I’m going to start Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them for Task 41!

message 80: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4318 comments Mod
Ok great stuff!! I’ll add it to the spreadsheeeeet!

message 81: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 522 comments Just finished Fantastic Beasts! Going to start Quidditch Through the Ages for Task 18!

message 82: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4318 comments Mod
I’ll add it to the spreadsheet!

Dana Storytime Account I will have Summer on Earth finished today (I have 60 pages left) and then I am going to be starting Pie in the Sky by Remy Lai (it's middle grade but again not on the arbookfind site, I think because it's new?)
I would use it for Task 19 but it also fits 8, 9, and 35

message 84: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4318 comments Mod
Sounds good Dana! I’ve put it down for task 19 on the spreadsheet but we can always switch it around later. When you finish Summer on Earth can you just let me know the date you started and finished it? Thanks😊

Dana Storytime Account I started Summer on Earth on August 6th, finished it on the 10th.
I started Pie in the Sky already as well, I'll let you know when I finish it!

message 86: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 522 comments Just finished Quidditch Through the Ages for Task 18! Just in case someone in the other team wants to accuse me of cheating, my edition has 105 pages plus the 18 pages of foreword. It’s one of the newer editions

I’m not trying to be rude. I just hate when someone accuses me of not playing by the rules. But yea anyways going to start Tales of Beedle the Bard soon to finish the category. (I finished it one day by the way)

message 87: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 522 comments Also I already started on Tales of Beedle the Bard for Task 41!

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4318 comments Mod
Now we’re raking in the points, ladies! And by raking in I mean getting a few more😂

@Dana sounds good👍🏻

@Ilsen a question: did you finish reading Fantastic Beasts on the 9th or the 10th? Cos I have it on the spreadsheet as the tenth but when I was double checking it on your challenge shelf it said you finished reading it on the 9th. I mean it doesn’t really matter I’m just being picky.

And with that in mind you started and finished reading Quidditch through the Ages on the 10th right?

Sorry for the 10,000 qs about dates🤦🏻‍♀️ time differences mean that it can be the 11th for me but still the 10th for other people.

Also, don’t worry about the pages of the book. Now that you’ve specified it is more than 100 pages no one is going to question it. I don’t think any of the other teams actually look at each other’s spreadsheets. I might be the only one, but I only do it to check everything is going alright and the spreadsheet is working properly. Besides I pretty much trust everyone to follow the rules because if they don’t that spoils the fun of the challenge and everyone is showing fabulous sportsmanship!

Dana Storytime Account Finished Pie in the Sky this morning!

I am going to look through the books I have here at home and see if there's something I can make fit in for another task and I'll let you know, if not I'll pick something up on Tuesday

Dana Storytime Account I am going to read Finding Orion by John David Anderson, which I know fits 17 and 35 and I will let you know if it covers anything else as I read it. Thanks!

message 91: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 522 comments Oh I’m so sorry for confusing you Kadi! I started and finished Fantastic Beasts on the 9th and started and finished Quidditch Through the Ages on the 10th. Right now I’m reading Tales of Beedle the Bard that I started on the 11th (it was midnight when I started it) and hope to finish it today!

Also yea I’m sorry for that. I just saw someone was looking at the other spreadsheet just because and she was like “Oh we should tell Kadi” but someone else was like “No she specified that her edition had 100 pages” (not naming names). It just really irked me. Like they can look at the other spreadsheet but don’t accuse the other people of cheating. Just worry about your team. Yea that’s my little rant.

message 92: by Anna (new)

Anna (bookgirl2) | 9 comments I finished Scar Island on the 10th!

message 93: by Anna (new)

Anna (bookgirl2) | 9 comments I won’t have a book finished for about a week because I have a book i need to finish from school, and the sequel to my favorite book (Of Ice and Shadows- sequel to Of Fire and Stars) is coming out Tuesday!

message 94: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 522 comments Just finished Tales of Beedle the Bard on the 11th (apparently I started on the 10th my bad)

@Dana I could’ve sworn I replied back to you! Maybe I only mentally did it, sorry🤦🏻‍♀️ Anyway yeah I’ve added those books to the spreadsheet and I’ve put the new one you’re starting down for task 17. We can always change it later if needs be👌🏻

@Anna, I’ve added it to the spreadsheet and not to worry just let me know when you next finish a book! Reading books for school can be such a drag right! And enjoy the new book release😊

@Ilsen I’ve added it to the spreadsheeeet (I should make that my new name, Kadi, aka I’ve added it to the spreadsheet😂😂). Also, I never even realised that happened. Now that you said it I checked and saw but yeah I’m not going to comment on it (you’re rant pretty much said it all) other than to add that this is a really good reminder that I should probably whizz through and check all the books people are reading to see they fulfil the tasks properly.

UPDATE ABOUT BONUS TASKS

So, if you've been looking at your team spreadsheet and thinking "WHAT IS HAPPENING IT'S GOING CRAZY!!" then don't worry, I've sorted everything out!

I've expanded the number of bonus tasks so that it goes like this:
Bonus Category 1:
- 5 tasks
- Each task worth 3 points
- Completing the category gives you 10 extra points

Bonus Category 1:
- 7 tasks
- Each task worth 5 points
- Completing this category gives you 15 extra points

I gave the categories quirky names because I'm either funny or weird, you decide (hint: it's funny)

Bonus Category 1 tasks will be revealed on 14th August, midnight my time (Dubai time) - SEE COUNTDOWN

Bonus Category 2 tasks will be revealed on 21st August, midnight London time - SEE COUNTDOWN

*IMPORTANT*
Books read for Bonus Category 1 must be started on/after 14th August in order to count towards those tasks.
Books read for Bonus Category 2 must be started on/after 21st August in order to count towards those tasks.

If you're wondering why the start time changes from Dubai to London it's because I'm moving to London on the 15th (exciting times). Any qs feel free to have your captain hit me with them😊 (in this case I am you captain so hit me with them personally😂)

ALSO: a while back the points coding for category 5 was incorrectly written so it wasn’t counting it as a category but I fixed it. Not sure if anyone noticed, but it works now😊 any points issues please bring them to me!

Hey ladies!

PLEASE VOTE: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...

Also, could you please share the points spreadsheet with your email or send me your email in a private message so I can share the spreadsheet with you. I’m making the spreadsheet private so it’s only viewable/editable by our team😊

And Ilsen sorry for the late reply, I’ll add your book!
Also, update, I’ve just DNFed the book I was reading for task 36 because it was boring the life out of me😩 I’m going to start something else to fulfil the task instead.

message 99: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 522 comments Ok yea I’ll DM you soon!

Dana Storytime Account I'm not sure why I keep finding books not on the arbookfind list but I'm also going to be reading the graphic novel Breakaways, it's definitely middle grade but not sure where it'll fit right now because I seem to have lost the spreadsheet until Kadi emails it back to me lol
