Is a matter of strategics... Risk it all with a 11 letter word or split into a 6 and a 5 letters and win the same amount of points

Laura | 9707 comments 20 hours to start time... who is ready?

I am! Just working out what books I'm reading first for the challenge and what to pick up before if starts....

message 54: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Me too! I've got my books ready to go

I will finish my current read first, or rather, I'll try to finish it by tomorrow evening. Since the start time is 1pm or me and I'm going to read on the bus in the morning and on my lunch break... :-)

Also, I have a couple of books lying on a pile here ready to go for this challenge. I have my eye on two other books that also fit my task so I'll spontaneously decide tomorrow evening which one I'm going to read for this. :-)

started my audio with 4+ narrators, and will start a kindle book for "published on 10th of month" on my way home

message 57: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I've started my 1st book on my break and will continue on lunch!

message 58: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I also started shattered bonds during lunch hour. I need to read like a banshee on my poor spare time, because with me being the designated driver for our road trip... not sure how much time I'll have to read during my vacation.... We'll see.

message 59: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments When are you leaving, Sonia?

message 60: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Wednesday morning

I have a to-do-before-trip list a mile long!!!!

LOL

Our Portuguese heritage is showing big time as usual.

message 61: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Nice, does the little one know or is it a surprise?
How long are you gone for?

message 62: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments She knows we're going to do a road trip. She has no idea about the trip to Isla Magica. Her birthday is next saturday, so the plan is two days for the park, one to enjoy the water slides and explore the park. The other, her birthday, to let her choose the rides and shows and whatever.

The park theme is pirates... so we're making a heat wave friendly piraty dress up for her. She's going to love it!!!

That sounds like so much fun! :-D

I have decided to dive into a shorter book for the Countdown task to make sure I will be done before my friend is coming to stay with me on Wednesday evening. She's leaving Friday afternoon again but I have plans with the ladies for Friday evening. So.... lots to do! And while Lisa Kleypas or Nalini Singh are quick reads for me despite 350+ pages, I do not want to push my luck and hold up the team.

After that long speech... ;-)
The book I'm going with will be One Word Kill. It's about a gang of friends playing D&D - amongst other things - so I'm pretty sure there'll be at least 9 characters in there hehe.

I have that same problem. Every single time. Even when I try to be organised. It just happens.

Laura | 9707 comments Finished my first book; will add to the spreadsheet.

message 66: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments What!?

Well my darn fault because after arriving home at 11 pm, Justice League was starting, so of course I stayed watching it instead of reading.

I didn't read anything over the weekend; it was time to get back at it! It was a shortie ;-)
Hope you enjoyed Justice League!

2hrs into my audio & 37% into my kindle :)

having to stop stalking other teams, who are depressing me with multiple finishes already, and remind myself that it's strategy, not a sprint, that'll keep us out of the hot rock!

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments LOL

I am 10% on my Jane book (puma on cover) and decided to change from Ash and Quill (The Great Library #3) by Rachel Caine to The Slow Regard of Silent Things (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #2.5) by Patrick Rothfuss ... that book has been nagging me at me for ages now... even if I'm not in the mood for the rest of the trilogy so far... I don't care is spoilerish... It's a beautiful book, and it's 2.5 on a planned trilogy.

And I'm in the mood for a strange and SHORT book.

message 71: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hopefully I can read/finish/almost finish slow regard today. I'm leaving in the morning for my trip to Spain.

Hopefully, I'll be able to relax near the pool with my books.

message 72: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
@ with Kingkiller Chronicles, Rothfuss has recently said that there is more story beyond the intended trilogy too, so doubly not-a-trilogy-anymore :)

message 73: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Yeah... But, Steven is kinda ultraged with me at the moment... so I may skip that one... Will switch to How Green This Land, How Blue This Sea Instead. (Newsflesh #3.1)

Slow Regard is apparently more about the love of language than actual story, but I really have no idea. I still haven't read book #2... oops ;-)

If all goes well, I'll be half-way through my book by tonight.

I should finish my C#10 book today...

Which should I tackle next: set in 1950s (I'll prob snag an Agatha Christie as being quick and fun) or with two authors (will be a longer book)

message 77: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I'm still pondering... Since I can listen to Slow Regard on youtube whilst packing, pet sitting for my friend, prepare my own kitties auto-feeders and litterboxes, clean up my fridge, etc etc, it does have a few advantages.

message 78: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
stop pondering & start reading, woman! the lava is oozing!

message 79: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Cat is it easier for you to do the debut author and I'll take the two authors? I can do a short one for it. Debuts I find harder to get from my library... it's small and I don't really want to buy one

message 80: by Cat (last edited Aug 13, 2019 09:08AM) (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
I can do that, yes :) I just assumed that debut would be easier to fill!

message 81: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I'll switch with you then and take the two authors task (C2) if both are equally easy for you to find something to fit.

Debut is a bit harder for me.

message 82: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
I've picked the debut book :)

message 83: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I'll probably do a Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward(?) book!

Little over half-way through mine now. Probably won't manage to finish today but tomorrow should be it! And then I'll jump right into my safezone book.

Finished the debut book task :)
Just over an hour left in my 4+ narrators, so that'll be done lunchtime-ish today.

We've got the 1950s task still to do, so I can pick that up this evening, unless Laura beats me to it ;-P

Sonia, how are you getting on with your two? With hols would it be easier if someone else takes one off your hands?

message 89: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I'll finish the two authors task today/ tonight then I'm packing for my camping weekend away. I'll take my lava book with me and check in to see when I can start it. I won't get to the 1950's task.

I'll finish the last two countdown books today too - I picked up the carnivorous animal to help Sonia out
A dragon is carnivorous, right?

Dealing with Dragons (Enchanted Forest Chronicles, #1) by Patricia C. Wrede

The 1950s book I've about 2 hrs: so this evening it'll be done.

Laura: ready for camping? got your anti-midge / mossie spray?!

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
I'm done! :-)

Going to start the BOM for the rest of the day (won't get a lot of reading time as I have to be out of the house again in half an hour) and then tomorrow, I'll grab the safezone 2 book off the shelf.

message 97: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments I have my safe zone book packed, bug repellent and sun screen! I have a few others that will work for safe zone #3 but realistically I'm going to be too busy playing washer toss, playing badminton, swimming, caring for my dog and hanging out with our friends! I'll do my best ( the other books work for ---- letter I)

message 98: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
Sooooo, I ran into a bit of an issue with my safe zone book.... (is typical haha).

I bought the book years and years ago and it has been sitting on my shelf untouched for almost all those years, and even when I rearranged the books on my shelf, I didn't actually register the cover. Turns out that the one I have isn't the standard cover (of course, it isn't..).

My cover dos not like this: A Kiss of Shadows (Merry Gentry, #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton Actually, I can't find my cover on GR, and I also can't fit it on Amazon anymore... The edition that fits the ISBN number has been changed and thus has a new cover. This one isn't particularly read and has the naked back of a very pale woman on it.

Anyway, I considered switching to this one: Mysterious Skin by Scott Heim . Do you think it is red enough?

message 99: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
If not, I also have The Mime Order (The Bone Season, #2) by Samantha Shannon but it'll take me a bit longer to read as it will take me ages to get back into the world and it's a 500 page book. But, a good option at least in case you don't think Mysterious Skin will work.

message 100: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10156 comments Mod
Mysterious Skin is red, imo!
