Fixed! Thanks for including the sheet link :)

you were right: the formulas hadn't been properly copied: it's something that you could've fixed yourself, but we are equally happy to sort out for you :)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments I think we have the same problem actually (Krakatoa Go Go). I noticed the formulas might be weird.
(Though we haven’t added any books yet 😉)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Not sure if it matters because we weren't given injuries from the Countdown Stage, but in the "Mods Check" (Krakatoa Go Go) it still says:

All countdown tasks read? No
All team members read for at least one task? No

Apologies if we missed this somewhere, but we were wondering about the end of Round 1. Does Round 1 end the same time as Round 2 begins? Or does it end a bit earlier?

Thank you!

message 159: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Hi moderators.

I read The Valley of Shadows as Mike Massa's debut book for task 1. While he wrote a short story that was included in the anthology Black Tide Rising I don't think that counts as writing a whole book. The first time he was involved in a novel length story was the book that I read.

It is the same time. Countdown will be posted soon along with the round 2 tabs on the spreadsheets

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments To clarify because the FAQ Goals S/S didn't cover this.

Read a book with red writing on the cover where the title contains the letters L-A-V-A (doesn't need to be in that order)

Can the red writing be the author's name?

message 163: by Rina (last edited Aug 20, 2019 01:12AM) (new)

Rina | 722 comments Can I use the first letter of the title in cyrillic for the spell-it-out? E.g. can I use Отстрел невест for O?

And can we use any character in the book, who has some dialog? Or MC only?

And can we use words from safezone group 2 for spell-out in group 3 or only words from the countdown tasks?

message 164: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4247 comments That is neat that you can read cyrillic. I only ever got as far as being able to read street signs, food labels, and menus.

Bear with me whilst I double check what we said for Wheel o Brown
That'll be OK: we can call on expert resources if necessary. that said, if you use a cyrillic letter that is not obviously the equivalent of english letter, please make is clear (link to a transliteration tool or something) for the Mods who struggle with other alphabet systems ;-)

And can we use any character in the book, who has some dialog? Or MC only?"

Check out the rules; we've not changed from our normal approach.

Countdown tasks only

When you add books to the spreadsheet, could you please also link the text to the book read? It makes it hard to check things without a link (and we may accidentally penalise you if we look at the wrong book because we have searched incorrectly, for example).

We will assume the linked book is the one you read, and the one that fits the task (or not!)

Make sure you link the right book!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments For tasks 6 and 1 that involve the 1001 books and NPR lists, are we just going by shelving here? Because I assume these are lists that are regularly changed. I know the 1001 books one does. They also probably have multiple shelf names here on good reads. Do we use the 1001 shelf, the 1001 books shelf, NPR, NPR books etc.., see where I'm going with this? There's also multiple listopia lists for both.

Melanie (mvalente89) | 1026 comments Ok, so I know we can use a word more than once if it shows up in more than one task. What about when the same word shows up more than once in the same task?

Came here to ask exact same question!
Like in Round 2 #10 has "with/with" and #6 has "you/you/you"...

FAQ will apply.

It says "but if a word is used twice (e.g. "an" is in more than one task), you can spell it for each instance it is used" (I've tidied up spelling & punctuation)

Clear enough, surely?

message 176: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 1026 comments I think what made me second guess it is that the FAQ says you can use it for each instance it is used but the example it gives it for a word used in more than one task.

message 177: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Righto.
So if a team decides to use both "withs" in #10, we would have to put something like
WITH - Task #10 (1)
WITH - Task #10 (2)

message 178: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments This is also probably a dumb question, but we can only "regenerate" if we lost points in Round 1, right?
Like, if we had no injuries, we cannot do the regenerations for extra bonus points?

(I do see there are 50 bonus points for doing Safezone Group 1 though ;D)

Or any damage you get during Round 2...

Last bullet-point of the info should answer the other question...

That bat looks nasty to me.
They have rabies, right
I think I'm going bat crazy and not in a good way

message 185: by Lexi (new)

Bats can be carriers of rabies, sure, but it's not endemic to the population, I think.

I'm a bat lover, me!

None of which really helped Paula though, did it?!

I suspect that plural lemons will be OK..

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1978 comments On the NPR list - can we use books from previous years that are linked on that first page or only those on the 2018 list?

Also when attempting Safezone Group 2 - if you're reading a book someone else from another team read does it have to be from the same round, or can it be from a previous round?
