For the book that is published on the 10th of a month, does it need to be a first edition or just any edition of it? And can we go by dates that Goodreads has listed since most books don’t come with that specific of information inside?
I am on We Lava to Read team but I can’t access our spreadsheet. I have requested it but I still can’t access it; however, I went onto three other teams threads and I was able to click on their SS. So I’m wondering if there’s something wrong with my request that I didn’t get access or what’s going on.
No-one on our team (We Lava to Read) has access to the spreadsheet yet (but we have all asked for it), and our team doesn't appear to be listed on the main team status page. Maybe we are missing something??

I'm not seeing any PMs Vicki? Can you PM the mod account with your emails and a link to the spreadsheet, and we'll sort it out

All books for Safezone Group 1 must contribute to the spell-out (check the rules for what can be used in spell outs) and you must also make sure you meet the requirements of your team reading level.
i.e. if you are in the bottom level, only one of the spell out books needs to be a BOM/other team book.

No, just the title
No, just the title

The task is asking for "first published" so that is the date you are looking for on GR (not the edition published date) - see this Ordeal by Innocence as an example of where there is a published and first published date listed.

Can the countdown tasks be done in any order?example: we finish #3 then #9 then #1. Or do we have to complete 10, then 9, then 8, etc?
As craters: 2 members need to complete 1 task each for zone 2. Can we choose to do all 4 tasks in zone 2? If so, does each zone 2 task need to done by a different player? For zone 3, are we only allowed to spell a word out once? Or could we spell out the word "six" multiple times if we so choose?
Hello Mary, please check out message 19 & 20 of this thread for the answer to your question. You can also check the faq in post 2 first before asking your questions( though we do realize it doesn't get updated as quickly as players would like) If you look at your spreadsheet you will see that if you choose to do safe zone tasks 1 you need to complete all 4 or you will get burnt feet. If you choose to do safe zone tasks 2 then you need to complete all 4 or again you will get burnt feet. It will also tell you how many players need to complete the tasks depending on what level you signed up for. ( This was also explained HERE)

I wanted to clarify for Countdown task Read a book that has two authors (as credited on Goodreads) ~ does a book using a pename for 2 authors count. i.e. Ilona Andrews books?Sorry if this has been asked - I swear I tried to look!

We haven't quite decided yet, but we'll give a heads-up soon!

It should be two separate authors that are listed individually on the book's page. Like with Dry.

Our team - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... - does not seem to appear on the Team Status tracking spreadsheet. If we need to change team names, because there seem to be a lot of "Lava Ladies," we can do that if it would make things easier. :)
Do the usual rules for rereads apply? As in, they can be used provided it has been at least 6 months since you read the book?

We will get the points computing correctly before the challenge starts or when some of the other mods come back from vacation.
I thought I recalled when The School for Good and Evil was released it was slated to be a trilogy? Does anyone know if this is true to count for countdown task?
Plethora wrote: "I thought I recalled when The School for Good and Evil was released it was slated to be a trilogy? This is a bit nitpicky, but is there a reason my team isn't called "Team We Lava Books" and all of the other teams are called "Team [Name of Team]"? Was I supposed to include the word "team" in my title?
For the task read a book where the audio version has at least four narrators can we listen to a book in audible format only? For example, I can listen to
, but there's no page count because it's only available in audio. The book it is based on,
has a page count of 324.
A similar question has already been asked, Jenny. Check the Q&A at the beginning of the thread ;-)
You can read whichever edition you want as long as the audio has at least 4 narrators.
You can read whichever edition you want as long as the audio has at least 4 narrators.
Not my question but I think what was being asked was can Jenny use it even if it is not the same version as the book and does not have page numbers. The Alive version is over 4 hours shorter than the audio version of Ender's Game. The same is true of one of the BBC's audio of Good Omens and many other audio dramatizations that they used abridged versions.
Yes Lexi that was my question. There are some audible versions that may not even have a book version at all. Is there a "time limit" - like if it's over 3 hrs long, is that long enough to work for this challenge (if it doesn't have a print version).
Oooh, right! Sorry, I completely misunderstood haha.
Since the limit for lava is 100 pages (and for WAT the 160 pages came out to be ~4 hours of audio), your version definitely fits within the limits.
As it's also written by the author himself and isn't simply an abridged version, just a different way of producing the same story that is simply half as long on audio, I'd say, yes, you can use it. (It would come down to 162 pages if you took half the length of the original book.)
Hope that answers your question :-)

Is there a specific list you are using for carnivorous animal? Asking because Dogs have come up for me as being on lists of carnivores and then omnivores.
Dogs are omnivores since they eat plant and meat but are part of the Order Carnivora. There are omnivores in the Order Carnivora. In my field, there is a difference between carnivorous animals and carnivore. However, if the mods have a list that sounds great but wanted to add some fun facts.
i figured it just meant 'animals that eat meat' even if they do eat plant matter as well, but we'll see what they say
Sorry if this was asked somewhere else (I looked but did not find):If our team has a separate "planning" spreadsheet, does it need to be public or can it be private? If private, do we have to give viewing access to the Mod account?
Question about safe zone 3. When choosing words from the tasks, does the sections in parentheses count? For example in task 7, could we pick from "as listed on Goodreads" since it's part of the task?

No specific list but if players want one they can use THIS LIST ( note- scroll almost to the bottom of the article)
Also you don't have to specifically use this list

Yes, anything in parentheses also works for the spell out in safe zone 3 tasks

Thanks for the info on the carnivorous animals. Someone else is reading that task for our team anyway, I think. I just didn't want to get dinged because one web page says an animal is a carnivore and another says it's an omnivore. Any decisions on what time this is starting yet?
We have been discussing with the mods as we are all spread across the globe and so need a time that we can all be available for the start/end of rounds.
We’ve landed on 9pm Sydney time on the 12th. You can convert this here: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldcloc...
Official announcement soon - I’m just back from holidays and very busy with work this week

Awesome, it looks like that is 7:00am on the 12th for me (EST) which means I can basically start reading on my way to work!! Yay for reading on Monday!!
For the tasks with "something hot on the cover (open to interpretation)":If there is a word in the title that is "fire" or "burning", etc., does that count as something hot? Or does it have to be an actual image?
Are the spreadsheets locked into read-only until the challenge starts, or do we need to request access?
