Prologue: 1832, HMS Beagle. Charles Darwin is on board a ship near Antarctica researching a mystery map provided by an islander near South America. Strange thigns happen, and the crew suffer casualties including something that enters the body and moves around. All record is destroyed except for the islanders' map, which Darwin is unable to destroy for science reasons
Very strange but it seems like Sigma is much smaller so far: just Kat, Monk, Gray, Jason, with Painter and Lisa out west. No mention of Kowalski, Seichan or new people yet and the action is progressing. DC, Antarctica...
so kowalski is back, but Sigma just seems smaller. No new characters, no new throwaway analysts or secretaries.
I also point out that the shadow biosphere in antarctica kind of sounds like a revist of another of Rollins' works: Subterranean, except without the intelligent life. Actually this book sounds more like Fragment.
