A Clown and a Ketchup Factory?

My first grade teacher read this book to the class (1983-ish). All I remember is that there was an evil clown who had a child trapped in a ketchup factory. At one point, there was some danger of the child being chopped up and made into ketchup. Crazy, I know...that's why I'm eager to figure out what it is! Thanks in advance!

I believe it was a chapter book but I don't remember the cover at all. I think the overall tone of the story was funny. Thanks for these questions to help me clarify things.
