October for me. It's one of my chunksters too. I'll either denigrate my list to put it in my current section or read the two books I have planned and put in the next section - depends on how September goes. I think October or early november would be good for coinciding with Halloween.

I put my reservation in for the title at my library. I should be able to get it around mid-october if everyone keeps it for the 3 weeks allowed.

Okay, at this point most people seem to be leaning toward October. Since I already have a buddy read of Midwinter of the Spirit planned for October 27 right after the toppler, I would prefer the first half of October, before the toppler. Would starting October 6th work for others? If not, is early November better?

Esther, can you see the dates when people are supposed to return the book? It might happen that somebody requested it but doesn't pick it up. Then your turn will come faster. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

No i cannot. Overdrive does not do it. Hopefully there a quick readers in that list... Out of my control. We shall see.

OK, this buddy read is currently scheduled for October 6th, five days from now. Is anyone else feeling as overwhelmed as I am? I'm thinking November might be a better month to read this book. Do the rest of you want to stick with Oct. 6, or postpone? And did Esther ever get the book? If so, I wouldn't want her to lose it because of a postponement. What do the rest of you think?

i did not and it looks like i will no get it pre-toppler. Overdrive now has a great "suspend hold" feature. So november works great for me.

I got the book a week ago and will have to return it the end of this month. So I will read it before the toppler. But I can always join the discussions in November. I also want to use it for the theme read this month.

November's good for me but perhaps mid-November? I am doing another buddy read which starts after the toppler and that's a chunkster too! I am going to have to rejig my chunkster challenge again but hey ho!

This is a re-read for me so I'm good. I'll probably read it in October though, but will chime in the discussion in November. My plan is to re-read Shadow of Night in November and then wind down the year with The Book of Life, which I've been waiting to read, in December. At least that's the plan - who knows what will transpire!

I can live with November. Gives me time to tackle some other books I've been wanting to start.

I was wondering about this. I have my non-fiction book to read, then need another chunkster. So I plan to pick this one up.

I'm going to give it a miss after all. I've decided to finish my chunkster challenge with my current chunkster and I could do with reading some books without any pressure.

I'm not sure I'll be able to join this time. I have been challenged to NaNoWriMo so most of my free time is going there. I will check back in if I am able to get to it. I have high hopes for the holiday week coming up but don't want to promise!

lol - I'm willing to bet a birthday week is a whole lot more fun than the holiday coming up here in the US. It's way more stressful than fun for a lot of people! I'm sure you'll have a much better time than I will!

My copy of it is due back next week and it will be weeks before I get it back so it's a now or very much later for me. SO I figured I would start and the worst that could happen was me writing to myself...

Up to chapter 10. I got into it last night and fought sleep... Well, now I have an idea what it going on.

Did I missed something or (view spoiler)[ do we exactly why Diana
do not want to use her Magic? She mentioned a price, and I got the feeling that it was something related to her parents' but it it was explained, i missed it. (hide spoiler)]

Matthew (view spoiler)[ is an interesting character. Both mysterious but still living a door open. I like the chapter with him and Hamish. (hide spoiler)]

Knox (view spoiler)[ may turn out to be one of the good guy but he annoys me. (hide spoiler)]

I may be a little slow getting started. I'm still trying to finish my "fact" book, and I've been sucked in by "Ready Player One." But reading three books at once is getting to be a regular occurrence around here.

I've read the first three chapters of Discovery of Witches. The book gets off to a great start. I love the setting. It actually makes me nostalgic for college. We meet Matthew in Chapter 2, and get his POV in Chapter 3, and he looks to be a very interesting character.

The aunts are pretty cool. They are some of the characters I liked the most.

Oxford: if i was Diana, i would do get a daemon and team on. Not that it matters as the book decided to stay lost and she is not in a position anymore to negotiate anything.

Glad we learned more about Matthew's background and family.And what about Diana's? She is a powerful witch but untrained. Who can train her? And fast....i am now very curious about what exactly happen to her parents. I would not be surprised if we do not learn it in this book.

France: out of the fire.... Well, she seems to have survive meeting The Mom. They had a small reprieve but now the Congregation has placed a pawn in the game. I am expecially curious about Ysabeau's reaction to the whole business... (hide spoiler)]

I'm still back in Chapter 11. About Diana's parents (view spoiler)[ is Gillian actually telling Diana that witches killed her parents? What would Gillian expect to accomplish by doing that? Does she think she can scare Diana into joining the local coven? (hide spoiler)]

I'm up to the beginning of Chapter 24 now. When I went to bed last night, I had just finished Chapter 13, and I had a bad feeling about (view spoiler)[ Diana giving Matthew permission to protect her. (hide spoiler)] Then I got a few chapters farther and decided maybe this was going to be alright. Now, as of the end of Chapter 23, (view spoiler)[ I'm beginning to think Diana may be a match for Matthew's domineering nature. I am a little worried that Matthew may negotiate some deal with Knox, and get double-crossed by Knox. I'm only a little over half way through the book, so I guess it's not surprising that nothing looks anywhere close to resolving. I'm also beginning to wonder what books 2 & 3 are like. Is the trilogy all one long story? Is book 1 going to end on a cliff-hanger? Time will tell, I guess. (hide spoiler)]
