giveaways--are selected winners really random?

I am new to this site. I was wondering how people are chosen to win the books for giveaways. It says people are randomly selected, but is that really true, or are they the higher ranked readers on this site? I was wondering if the those running the give-aways look through reader profiles to see who would be the best match for the giveaway book. If you have won a book, how long did it take you to win one?

Funny you posted this because my hubby walked in with a package and said you got a book. I said I didn’t order s book. I opened it and I won The Secret Wife of Aaron Burr by Susan Holloway Scott. I entered here a month ago. I can’t even remember how to get to the giveaways. Lol. So I say Random.

Yes, I think giveaways are random. I have won three times on this site but 3 to 5 years apart.

I have never won. My thought is if you do reviews. I don't know.

My guess is random. I have won a few books over the approximately 10 years I have been on this site. I have done a few reviews but generally only for new authors who have few reviews. I don't keep track of how many I have won but probably around 8 and 1 Kindle book.
