I was written in the 80's I think. Heroines name is Rachel, she falls in love with an older man but he thinks she’s too young. The book takes place over a lot of years. She ends up married to a Mexican/Spanish wealthy land owner/cattleman, I can’t remember. He’s abusive. She has a child with him I think can’t remember. The other guy is in army it’s setting is during like Indian fighting I’m guessing late 1880s. Can’t remember lol. He comes in and out of her life.

The last chapter of the book she goes to a field/grove whatever to finally come to terms with never getting him. It’s emotional and sad, she’s screaming his name etc. he shows up and finally realizes she does love him and the age difference doesn’t matter.
