Richard (togiraikonoka) | 8 comments The book cover image for this book does not match the book, i.e. book cover is for the Vatican Cellars whereas the book is Tropic of Cancer.

Also I used the barcode scanner of the mobile app for to scan in A Clockwork Orange (Banned Books edition) which as the barcode 9771753312009 and it came up with this Banned Books edition of Tropic of Cancer

Z-squared | 8575 comments this is quite the mess, and i've only been able to partially untangle it.

first of all, the user that created that record did not upload that cover. the cover came from an amazon database update, and as it was obviously erroneous, i removed the cover. i was unable to find the real cover anywhere, however. oh well.

as for the ISBN attached to that record, it's not actually a valid ISBN13. they're supposed to start with 978, and putting 9771753312009 into an online ISBN converter sends the poor thing into fits. moreover, using the 'get a copy' button for amazon on that number brings up THREE results, all from the banned books imprint from Harper Perennial, but none of them are Vatican Cellars, Tropic of Cancer, OR Clockwork Orange. Harumph!

I'm going to leave the ISBN there for now. However, I did note that the banned book edition of A Clockwork Orange is already on Goodreads here:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I find it interesting that that edition has no ISBN attached. I'm wondering if these were released with no ISBN, or the pseudo-ISBN 9771753312009, and if all (or several) books from the banned books imprint share this pseudo-ISBN.

Richard (togiraikonoka) | 8 comments I didn't say that the same user who added book also uploaded the wrong book cover pic :P

And I think in majority/all of books have same barcode number as ISBN-13, and after doing a Google search on the ISBN-13/barcode number of A Clockwork Orange, I noticed that the first few results were of A Clockwork Orange but also the following links were of Tropic of Cancer then of Vatican Cellars.

Thanks for the help/info

The internet is weird. Sometimes it strips context in ways I just can't anticipate.

Whenever a librarian deletes a cover, said librarian had better justify why, because Goodreads policy is pretty strict about keeping them. I didn't misunderstand your post or try to put words in your mouth, I was just adding a justification for my action. In case the Powers That Be ever stumble upon this thread and want to know why. These threads are also left up and are searchable, which makes them a resource for librarians fulfilling future requests. In case anybody has a problem with this or other books from this imprint, it's good to have a record of what was decided and why. Hence my overexplaining (twice, now) :P It's not (entirely) for you, it's for other librarians.

Richard (togiraikonoka) | 8 comments I read somewhere that there's some system called Ingram that helps on here as well as user input when adding new book data, so I wasn't too sure whether it was user error or machine error, hence why I worded what I said in original post without blaming either
