Very intriguing review! I'm guessing you rated Dark Matter around 3 stars? It was 5 for me, so curious where I'll fall on this one.

The concept is very interesting.
I haven't read Dark Matter yet, so maybe I will try that first. (someday)

*Speaking of false memories.. my brother just shared a memory of me leading a whole school bus full of kids in song. It's amazing that two people could have such a different memory of an event. (I'll admit to maybe singing a popular song with a friend, but that's about it.)

Trust Exercise plays with this a little... I can't say it is a high recommend from me, but since you mention interest in that theme I could recommend to you.

Yes, Dark Matter was 3 stars for me (but had it come out when I was 16, no doubt it would have been 5 stars--I still liked dark novels and time travel and read a lot of hard core scifi back then).

Thanks Meli. This is the second time Trust Exercise was recommended to me, so on the list it goes!
There is a mysterious illness called False Memory Syndrome that detective Barry Sutton begins to investigate, but the other POV is Helena Smith who has invented a memory chair with the goal of helping her mother who has Alzheimer's and others like her. However, what is happening is threatening to unravel everything and wreak havoc on human existence.
I liked this better than Dark Matter, and Crouch writes a strong tale, I'm just not keen on the (view spoiler)[time travel type things (hide spoiler)] as I am not only oversaturated on this for my life, I just (view spoiler)[don't buy it due to the fact that the earth is never in the same spot twice in our lifetimes or even in the history of humankind regardless of what biogenesis you believe (random evolution or any other thing, such as ID, etc) (hide spoiler)]
